cranshaft broken after an alledged sudden failure of 5 out |
|
hi
I bought a Disco3 in May last year from a place in Hadfield (Davcid OLDHAM) took out an extra warranty and had loads of problems and failed to get an oil change at the specified time even though i had put it in for a service and had loads of mechanical things done. Engine stopped abruptly in January and the crankshaft was broken. Car was taken to C&C engines in Bury and they rebuilt the engine and got it back for 14th Feb after 2 w. was quoted £3000 then added £1000 for a crankshaft whilst on the ramp on cash sale, yet paid £4800. I left the workshop with the engine warning light on. I was told it only had to be reset as they did not have the computer. I had the service done and GUy Salmon found EGR valve gone and booked in 3 weeks later to get it fixed. but3000 miles later (29th april) it ruttled whilst driving slowly at a light incline and stopped point blank. Initial txt from C&C engines next morning Its the crank and should get a car for 2 w for repairs. 28th May i was told 5 of 6 injectors failed and thus the engine had to be rebuilt again, reconditioned injectors were fitted but they did not work. I have been told the injector failure ( 5 out of 6 at the same time) caused the crankshaft to break again and they had to rebiuuild the engine egain. Put an egr valve in and almost 13 w later say they want 2550 + vat for rebuilding.
Does this sound right?
Can 5 injectors fail at the same time and cause the crank to break
Have I been conned?
I have been told if I dont want to pay then the will take the engine apart again and give me the car back.
Any ideas????
I feel a little bit of a fool

Another "reconditioned" engine
This is the exact reason why I only fit good 2nd hand units. Not that it helps you n your current situation though....
Yes, you have been conned
No, it is almost impossible that 5 injectors would fail simultaneously, unless there was catastrophe failure of the fuel system. If 5 had failed, a broken crank would be the least of the engines problems. Injector issues are their "get out clause"
Edit: where did the crank break, and was it a new or reconditioned crank they fitted? My D3 Build Thread

Maybe you should ask just what they mean by injector failure?

Thank you i shall, but I don't seem to get any decent answers - just excuses. The won't even allow me paying the forced second repair by credit or debit card stating I could revoke the payment claiming a fault. It's clearly questionable.

I failed to get an oil service done on the first extended warranty . I had it in several times for "servicing" faults that the oil service, even though I asked for it, got overlooked . The second warranty was given by C&C engines with the rebuild of the engine. The company claimed it was a failure of 5 injectors at the same time to cause the crank to break after only 3000 miles of running

Sounds very dodgy, get some legal advice. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Sorry you have gone through this but the law is on you side, firstly the car shouldn't have been released to you with any faults on it ,it was there duty to have all faults cleared and any over work brought to your attention IE egr valve, sounds like a very cow boy outfit, take them to court get all you money back and buy a new engine john Cradocks have them at £4800 I was there yesterday talking to Steve & he told me that they still have some left & come with LR warranty parts & labour hope this helps
