phoned LR dealer in Newcastle and got told i can't just put one of those on the car without changing EMC or smt sounds like that (was in the middle of a meeting, so didn't ask him to repeat). I made sure he was referring to the non adaptive varient of the xenon. He added it would cost around 3-4k to change from standard to xenon.. surely that can't be right.

No It's not right. What an idiot!
Just buy yourself a set of non-adaptive xenons and its a straight swap. Electronic unit is built in to the headlamp as people have said. Check my gallery. Back in the game!

In support of what has already been said. You CAN upgrade to the non adaptive Xenons. All you have to do is take out the old halogen units and put in the new Xenon units. I know because I've done it. It took about 15mins following the instructions for bulb changing in the handbook. Having done it once I'm sure I could do it in less than that.
Adjustment was a bit off on one of the new ones; dealer fixed it for nothing while attending to some other bits and pieces.
Gives you lots of confidence in the dealers doesn't it. LR really have to get on top of the dealer network. I know there are good ones out there, but there are also far too many incompetent ones.

Bugg3r, missed out by a £1. Never mind. I thought the headlights had an adjuster to convert between LHD and RHD for driving abroad.
Therefore is it not possible to by LHD and flick the switch ????? "To finish first, one first has to finish ...."

Hmmmm, surely a store room with more universal parts = reduced production and associated costs = savings.
Well it does in my book "To finish first, one first has to finish ...."

DG thanks for the advice looks like it's not to difficult!!
Xenons cost £337 each from Nick,
I have tried the ebay route for about 3-4 months and not much coming up or I get outbid
Knowing my luck, now I've bought some there will be a 'boat load' arriving on ebay any day now
I have a busy weekend coming up: xenons, roofrails and a G4 expo rack to fit 8) 8) Disco 5, it's not every man's desire, but a connoisseurs choice
