somebody. ..a neighbour pranged my car..how much damage

Hi fellas,

Well was at work and brother sends some whatsapp pictures and calls me. Car had been parked up minding it's own business when somebody just decided to headbutt my car with his. Evil or Very Mad Big Cry Censored

Lucky for me he could nor exactly run off because not only was his car a wreck bur he also lives on my street.

He must have hit my car so hard because it moved my whole car and jammed my driver side against kerb...when car moved with such force that front driver side ended partially on the kerb. Shocked

Here is picture of his car

As for my car well see the photos below and tell

As you can see the wheels have been pushed up tight against the kerb...car was parked half a foot from kerb.
From initial observation it looked like mine got away lightly.

But then saw this...

That leaked fluid appears to be the power steering fluid. The pact forcefully turned the wheels and damaged the drive shafts? Steering rack..the power steering fluid reservoir was empty......what more damage could there be???...you can see a clip and some washers also dropped I to foot well. . Shocked

This happened early afternoon..needless to say was not happy at all. Came straight home from work and phoned insurance company. They were great and arranged a courtesy car straight away which arrived this morning...a pretty nice lookin Corris great disco sport...

Again needless to say have not attempted to start the caret along each move it. It's getting picked up on Monday to be assessed by engineer. So repairable or could there be more damage under there. .ie axles, suspension arms etc etc...your opinions would be most welcome..

Cheers

Ash

You need to make sure your vehicle is checked out exceptionally well , suspension, drive shafts, steering, wheels, tyres, chassis damage, as well as bodywork, incidentally, that pass door vertical gap looks excessively large in that 2nd to bottom pic, is that how it was pre accident? Insist on an absolutely comprehensive check of your vehicle, who knows what underlying damage there could be. Thumbs Up

Hi Dn

My thoughts precisely ... Looks like it took much of the hit under the body .....

Will be asking for a full report on all items you mentioned and more.

The passenger door was not shut properly, I had opened it to pop the bonnet. Thumbs Up

Has your neighbour, (who can't drive ..... and I'm seeing plenty of that, where I am at the moment Whistle ) admitted liability / owned up to it ? ....... Must've been a fair old whack to move it into the kerb like that ....There was a chap on here that I think, reversed into a high kerb quite forcefully, and it managed to bend the chassis Shocked Needed to replace it Rolling Eyes All I can say is, as well as all the other things you have in mind, ( it may also have sheared the steering column lock, or damaged it, as well as the rack) get everything checked for alignment, on a proper LR jig if possible before they even think about commencing any repairs. Good Luck with it.. Thumbs Up

That I am Big Cry

Depending getting on the assessment report I am prepared to buy it back at salvage. Have LR specialist close buy who I can take it to. Or as some people have done break it up and sell off parts myself.

If the overall repair cost is more than 60% of the market value of your Disco then it will be written off and may get the option to buy back as salvage. If your insurance company pass you onto a company called Albany Assistance then be prepared for grief as we experianced and wished we just went with the third parties insurance to deal with everything. In the end with us it took a number of high premiums calls and stress to get it all sorted out, but we said we wanted our vehicle written off as the cost was on the border between repair and write off. You can say you want your vehicle to go to a body repair shop of your choice but most insurance companies will push for one of there approved body shops.

Hope it goes smoothly for you.

Regarding neighbour not backing out, I was at my mates and next door neighbour knocked on door and admitted running into my LR 110 when reversing out of his garage. Said he would pay for repair as just a dented wing. When I presented a few quotes to him he said that it was too much and walked away and would not answer any letters from me or Insurance Co. Just a word of warning, it can turn nasty!

Point noted.

Though as mentioned he gave his insurance details which I have passed onto my insurance. Can't see how he old get out of this, hitting a parked unattended car which had been parked there in the same spot for 2 days. Made sure I took plenty of photos and have not moved the car or tried starting it.

Well even if I wanted to move it I couldn't. Put the key in the ignition earlier, steering look disengaged and steering wheel just swung like freely side to side like pendulum. ..no affect on wheels.

Anyone able to give an idea of what tbeextent of the damage is?

Sounds like the rack is mullered, but this may well have an effect on the suspension and chassis mounts etc.

Thanks Disco

There were some washers and a clip which had dropped into the footwell.

What about suspension and chassis mounts as Sydney mentioned?
