I think so; just never thought of the centre diff acting as a regular diff once one of the 2 prop shafts has been removed. Still wondering about why the EPB did not hold it though or why the ramp-top had a downward-sloping profile.
I'll tread carefully.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948
I'm assuming the EPB wasn't applied? I was wondering about the ramp profile too. I guess if the front wheels were on a slight slope that could be enough to overcome it.Current: Discovery 3 06MY (55 reg) HSE Auto Zambezi Silver Allisport Fast Road Intercooler, V8 Brakes, Silicone IC Hoses, EGRs Blanked, Remapped, De-Cat pipe, FBHIC

From the original post I read it as the D3 was reversed up onto the ramp - implying the 'slope' was forward facing. If the EPB wasn't applied and no chocks in place then gravity would take over.
I made a similar mistake many many years ago with a Triumph Toledo - reversed onto the ramps to work on the handbrake - forgot the chocks and as I got out the damn thing rolled into the garden wall....
Luckily no one hurt but it's made me paranoid about checking and double checking.....I see no ships........

I see what you are saying but the tops of all the ramps I have used have a slight wheel recess and an end stop - the ramp profile is only to get you there, not to park on.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

Ok, loving the light hearted banter and I am very grateful for the well wishes. The reason for the post was make everyone aware of the "momentary lapse of concentration" so I will try and explain.
Firstly as someone pointed out because the car is an auto I very rarely put on the EHB, probably only when I am in a queue at traffic lights. So no EHB. I reversed up the ramps and chocked the front wheels, so far so good, the problem started when I had a moment of genius and dropped the car off the ramps, I moved the ramps about 4 feet further back and and put the car back up the ramps. This rotated the drive shaft enough to get to the remaining bolts. So impressed with my brain wave I completely forgot to replace the chocks. So I now have the car up on the ramps and proceeded to remove the remaining bolts. It was at this point I was in trouble. the rest is history and thankfully I am not, but it was a close thing!!
So ramp up the puns, keep the ribbing and for god's sake be careful.

Don't worry DSL the thread is already chock full of puns. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

True and all these puns lead to a slippery slope.
Just glad we're in a position to make puns.

I was thinking along the same lines ...
Given that an LRD has somewhat larger diameter wheels than most 'ordinary' cars - were the ramps designed to encompass enough of the tyre contact so that there wasn't any overhang which might have contributed to the roll-off?
W r t the Keighley Kontraktor mentioned - not far up the Aire Valley By-pass from me - I've also heard excellent reports on the workmanship, and highly competitive prices..
Anyone needing to have a Recce made for them before motoring a long way -plz don't hesitate to contact me to see if I can help in any way.
