Trying to find a garage for this for later in the year/early next year.
Info is for myself and Kev91.
Both our autos have similar faults and bad runnings.
Both have been flushed by Disco Mikey a year ago. 117k for Kev and 125k for mine. Kev has 132 and I have 141k now on the cars.
Both have the tc judder under load. Kevs is worse than mine but both are doing it.
Both pulse on the Rev counter at speed. Mine is anything over 50 mph, Kevs will bounce between 50-65 then clear up.
Mine will go up the Rev range in 500rpm stages in 3rd and 4th gear in command shift.
It won't hold 6th, or even 5th on some of the local hills, even at motorway speeds.
Kevin uses his for towing at times, I use mine off road when I can, I currently don't have my towing license.
So far I've been quoted the following.
Mackies transmission in Glasgow want £3404 for a new TC, box rebuild, separate oil cooler and lines, oil and filter change with labour and vat.
Tayside transmission want £3120 for the above, with new mechatronic unit.
Bristol transmission want £2700 for new tc, box rebuild, oil change, labour and vat.
Are here any other places I should try to get quotes from?
I'm not looking for the cheapest as I intend to run my car for years to come, Kev is similar.
I just don't want to get ripped off for the work as there are large gaps in prices for similar work to be carried out.
I know people have had box rebuilds etc on here so looking for your own stories and places you used.

As long as there is no coolant in the oil, you won't need a separate cooler.
I believe there have been issues on a few cars with external coolers, as the oil doesn't get hot enough...
I would say don't use Tayside Transmissions.
I took my D3 there to see what they reckoned about saving my box. He road tested it for a few miles, and proclaimed there was nothing wrong with it...
He also said he hadn't had a 6 speed box apart before, and that would have been his first one...
I do believe Butlers in Forfar deals with these gearboxes. I know they recon torque converters at least My D3 Build Thread

Definitely gives Charles Butler in Forfar a ring. Whilst he was rebuilding my D2 auto he had lots of X5's in for gearbox and tc rebuilds. Interested in the price!!
My gearbox was fine, flush by DM at 109k miles then at 120k I had to change the mechatronic sleeve. Upon refilling (new oil) within 1mile I had the dreaded shudders. Tube of Dr tranny and has been fine for the last 5k but do expect it will return.
