Right, had a long meeting with my USA based manager, who to be honest is very sympathetic to my situation - Apparently HR were asking questions as to why she has an employee listed as ‘Home worker‘ when the company has asked for all to return to the office
Anyway, the summary of the conversation is that she removed the status, so that HR no longer ask questions - off the record she does not expect me in any more than my one day a week as she fully understands that for me, home is best given that I deal with late calls, conferences with USA based people.
So for the moment, the status quo remains, although I do of course loose some money.....at least I won‘t have the huge increase in fuel costs.
One last thing, the situation could change in the future, but for the moment, I‘ll be working from home.
That‘s I thnk the best situation I could have hoped for, so from now on, we will not mention "Working from home"
Panic over for the moment Iggy/Ieuan

And the circling vultures line up for landing. No D3 & Sankey pickings to be had.
Good result.

Good outcome
Think some of your initial maths was a little out though. Tax and insurance costs will not increase with mileage, ok maintenance may a little, though if not doing 15k a year at present between services should be very minimal. Fuel costs at present levels should be around 22-23p per mile.
So really the main cost for those extra miles should be around 25 - 27p per mile.
Also compared with just over a year ago when fuel prices were much dearer, your fuel costs should of dropped quiet significantly, about 25-30p per litre.D4 Landmark MY16 Santorini Black THE LAST

I had similar woes when I was relocated to a much further from home office, running the D2 would have been prohibitive so swapped cars with my wife and ran her Tdi Golf, at nearly 60mpg it was twice as economical as the Disco. It came time for it to be changed and was replaced with a Tdi 4motion Tiguan (We didnt really need another 4x4 but it was what she wanted), still use it for work and she uses it for social, its only doing 45 mpg but still significant savings over the D2s 28. I get reasonable fuel bills, get to keep my beloved Disco and the miles its putting on are seriously reduced. Win / win?2004 Discovery 2 Td5 Landmark
