Huge increase in monthly outgoings coming - Disco going?
So I was informed today that I have to return to the office on a daily basis – I currently work from home as my team is a WW team and mostly dealing with USA on calls etc.
The net impact will be 200 additional miles a week – 10,400 a year. Currently the disco costs me around £0.45p a mile to run (Fuel, ins, tax, maintenance) = £4680 additional costs per year
I’ll also be losing some benefits for working at home, as well as a change in my NI classification, as they have recently removed the final salary pension, net impact = £720 additional costs
That’s a net increase of £5400 a year
I’m a bit lost now, I have no idea what to do – gut feeling is that I can’t really continue to afford the Disco!!!
I have some meetings with management this week, so at the moment there will be no increase in mileage/fuel, but I’m already seeing the £60 a month reduction in take home
If the Disco goes, to be replaced by a cheap to run car, then I'm not sure it will be able to pull the Sankey and hence it could very well be the end of that as well
I’m a bit down today…..sorry to moan to all, but had to get it off my chest (Been a bad few weeks all in all) and I'm sure I'm looking at worse case scenario's, but it's not looking good
Anybody with any brilliant ideas?
Cheers
Iggy
(Yes I will have plenty Disco related stuff to sell if it does have to go….thought I’d say that before the sharks start circling )Iggy/Ieuan

Cheers for that
SWMBO keeps telling me that as well and for me not to get so silly and emotional (They're usually right of course and I am Welsh, so emotion is normal for me ) , I'm probably just panicking a bit....but it looks so 'dark' when you see the numbers on a spreadsheetIggy/Ieuan

I think your calculation is a bit off as tax and insurance won't increase with mileage. Your extra cost is only fuel and a proportion of maintenance, but even the latter isn't a simple linear increase.Darren

Buy a cheap old banger for work. Keep the D3. You will do less miles in the D3. An old Mini might fit the bill? At least you know how to fix them!

Don't panic Mr Mannering!
You`ll find a way, my D3 still here, while I use other vehicle. Every mile in the other saves a mile in D3.

SWMBO just told me to stop being a silly
She drives a Mitsi Colt 1.2, so ideal option, but she hates driving the Disco (NO idea why )......I‘m wiating now for these meetings this week and see what‘s said. I agree, that it may not be as expensive as my simple maths, but still a big increase.
We‘ll see what happens this week and take things from there Iggy/Ieuan

Sorted! You take the Mitsi to the office & she has use of the D3. Since she doesn't like driving it then there won't be any excessive mileage on it. I call that win - win.

10,000 miles? That's around 3 month's mileage for me, so don't panic! He who panics might end up with a 1 Series diesel so take care, the stakes are high.
Are you using the car to simply commute, or do you do business miles? If you do business miles, do you use an accountant to claim everything possible legitimate tax allowance for your running costs? I do; it makes a substantial difference to my finances.2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

Buy a cheap run around,
Turn up on time first week or so,
Next week turn up late 2-3 days, use car problems as excuse,
Leave it a week or so turn up even later, car problems again,
Keep this going for while, especially when meetings or other important things are organised
Then turn up on a bicycle ( that you've taken out of the car parked about a mile away, splash of water on your head/face,
Into office effin and blinding about car,
They might let you continue working from home, at least you will be there on time,
OR
Get you a company car
Good luck
Worked for a friend of mine, only an Astra but cheap to run and as the company own it no other expenses
1st dibs if you've got 19"wheels and xenons D3 57 xs Stornaway grey
