So me and my 55 plate D3 HSE have had our ups and downs over the last 5 years since I've owned it.
I've rebuilt the front and rear suspension to sort out bushes, replaced the suspension compressor twice, changed the Alternator and the aux belt tensioner, serviced it too many times to remember with respect to oil and filter changes, swapped to V8 discs, changed loads of sets of pads, cleaned and adjusted the EPB every year, changed the tailgate handle/switch, changed the clock spring twice, been locked out of it due to the 3 wire splice, changed all four flexible brake pipes, changed the hard front to back brake lines, changed several rubber gaiters, had a shower in it when the sunroof drains were blocked and a whole load of other small and not so small jobs.
But on the good side it's been all over the UK, towed our boat up and down the country whilst laden with camping gear, and generally been far better to drive than the Japanese 4x4s I've had in the past.
It really has been a hobby rather than just a mode of transport, and at the moment if I could afford to I'd only replace it with a D4.
Since I purchased it in March 2010 with 87K miles on it I've driven it everywhere and given it a hard working life. The only paid labour it's seen in all that time is Geoff doing a gearbox flush, West 4x4 reading the codes once, and Keith Gott programming a new key fob.
Everything else has been done by me with help from this fantastic forum.
Today at 10yrs old, with 172 Thousand miles on the clock, having been maintained by just me for 5 years it passed it's MOT without even a single advisory - Chuffed to bits.

Thanks guys.
As mentioned it really is a hobby more than just a car to get around in.
If it was a Mondeo or similar I just wouldn't have put up with it, and I do consider myself lucky I have the tools, and a reasonable size garage to do it.
People at work often comment on how nice it looks and ask about ownership.
My advise is always only to go for it if you can fix it yourself or can afford to pay somebody else to fix it, because it will need fixing.
