UPGRADING HEADUNIT

Hi,

i purchased this kit which said it included a cage, but after I bought it and messaged the seller he removed the cage and said its not included.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...8641958015

that's not a problem I should be able to source a cage.

I will be buying the stereo from halfrauds

http://www.halfords.com/technology/car-aud...-bluetooth

do I need anything else to fit it?

My car is GS model and doesn't have the harman kardon system nav or anything high spec

not on a D4.

From your gallery, its looks like you've got a D3 - might be worth moving your post into the D3 section. There are a few guys upgraded their stereos to double DIN units in the D3

If you have steering wheel control switches you will also need an adapter for them.

I used CTSLR006.2 for a 2008 with CTPIONEERLEAD lead for a Pioneer radio.

If you have a Hardon and Karmen system within the car you will need to get the car rewired as i tried to do the same thing but got told it wouldnt work and id lose 60% of the speakers as the system couldnt merge with the exsisting one. obviiously not sure which system you have currently but worth looking into.

Base stereo, you'll be fine. Thumbs Up

Moller, it is possible, just needs some extra wires in and a bit of open heard surgery on the old stereo.

Thanks guys. Ive taken the stereo out and installed the new one but no power coming to it. I need to locate a switch live? Any ideas im thinking from the cigarette lighter can i simply join a connector and take power from there or do I need a in line fuse?

Also I dont know which wire would be the switch wire how can I work that out or does anyone know?

Appreciate any help.

Thanks

There were two connector blocks going into the original stereo and the smaller one had been cut off apart from one thin black cable which remained connected to this block whilst being connected to stereo.

Could this be the switch live that I require?

Thanks
Karim

I took my power from the 12v cigarette plug, but if I had to do it again, I would use something like this from the fuse box behind the glove compartment, e.g. from the fuse to the 12v cigarette plug:

I have one issue whilst waiting for the cable and connectors to come the car battery is being drained now that I have removed the stereo? I cant understand why that is

The previous original stereo was before draining the battery until it stopped working or tunring on then it stopped draining the battery and now that I've disconnected it, its once again draining tbe battery?
