Xenon upgrade - does beam alignment need checking
Being a newbie I am about to do my first upgrade on my D4 XS.
I am upgrading the headlights to xenon (non adaptive). Does anybody know if the beam alignment needs to be checked or is it automatically controlled by the air suspension height sensors?
The xenon headlights I am fitting are new OEM Valeo units.

You'll need to check the alignment. The air suspension will level them but only if they're set correctly in the first place.Darren

If you can park facing a wall or garage door before you swap them over, you could mark the aim of the originals, then use that to check the aim of the new ones, provided you haven't moved the car.Renny Thomson

They are usually ok, even s/h adaptive as when they are switched off they return to the central position, several members have had them checked afte the upgrade and they have not needed adjustment, you will need them enabling in the CCF for them to strike up correctly It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

What part numbers are your xenons?
I bought a N/S xenon non afs headlight unit part number AH22-13W030-FD
I can't find an O/S with part number AH22-13W029-FD they all end either FC or AC, I am unsure of the difference and could I use one that ended with FC or AC with my N/S that ends FD?
A pic of the label

Always get them checked properly, if the cut off is even slightly out they are a danger to other road users, with the recent dark nights most of the blinders are illegal HIDs, and brand new never MoT'd disco 4's...

Thank you all for the advice. I will probably get them checked at my local MoT centre just to be on the safe side.
Chobby the units I bought are OEM Valeo non LR branded. They do not have the LR part numbers on them. I couldn't see the point in paying twice as much for a LR sticker.

I recently fitted non-adpative xenons to mine and they needed to be adjusted with the manual bolts on the back in the same way as regular headlights to align them properly.
Also, whilst it's nice to enable them in the CCF, it's not essential in this case as the lights still work perfectly. They just flicker very briefly on start up if not enabled.Darren

Thanks LandRoverAnorak, lights are now in and flicker free as I have a Nanocom. Also did the 4x4 screen and timed FBH whilst I was at it. Just want to get the FBH remote kit now - anyone know where I can get this?
I am just going to the MoT station for an alignment check. Will update results later.

Yeah that's a fair point I was hoping you might know the difference between the whole FD, FC & AC thing or have the same or different units as me.
My iid tool should be here today or tomorrow I'm going to activate the timed climate and looking for someone who supplies the remote control kits.

Just got back from the MoT tester and LandRoverAnorak was spot on with his advice as both light required adjustment. Both units were high (especially the near side) which would not have been much fun for oncoming traffic.
Possibly the difference experienced by site members could be down to new or secondhand fitment i.e. If the lights are secondhand then they have already been calibrated to the height of the vehicle. This then requires setting for new units as the self levelling probably only applies an offset.
i'm in the process of upgrading my lights to xenon units. the same as in the picture however, iv'e asked the main dealer to change the ccf file. the workshop has declined the job, reason given was that "if the vehicle wasn't fitted with the lights from new, they wouldn't want to mess with the ccf file as it may not have the xenons in the file to activate"
my question to the forum is, will the actual lighting control module be fitted as standard and where is it located on the vehicle.
i note that there are some extra connector blocks behind the o/s headlight... what are these for, are they for fog and auxillary lightingDucati 996 rocket!!

Blindpew your dealer is spinning you a yarn as your ccf does have the xenon option which just needs to be enabled. Halogens have a soft start feature which causes xenon to flicker on start
up which is the main reason for the ccf change. See if you can find a willing site member in your area who can do it for you.
Lighting control module is only required for vehicles with adaptive xenon headlights. My D4 previously had auto adjusting halogens.

The op has a D4 and the later reference to flickering is in response to a post about a D4. The above only applies to a D3. If you fit D4 xenons to a D4 that previously had halogens and don't change the CCF settings they do not work at all. You have to change the CCF file on a D4.

Just (10 mins ago) upgraded my 2010 halogens to 2015 xenons
had a chap plug in and changed the file to make them work (took 20 seconds) , alls well but the beam is high so will need to turn the screws on the back to lower . Current D4 with B4 face lift conversion
Ex - D3 Gs with 4 face conversion
