Locked out of disco 3
Hi all, I'm new to this forum so can anyone help, My disco 3 ran fine till 2 days ago, then I found it wouldn't unlock from the keyfob, I suspected the fob battery had failed (although no message on car dash) so I tried the passenger door key access, no joy, does not work, then I thought the car battery had got low, so I jacked up and fed 12 volts to the battery feed on starter, ( it showed the battery was charged anyhow, ) so it is now immobile, does anyone have similar fault? Please help if you can.

The passenger key access can seize up - if you are a nugget like me, twist harder, if not, read Robbie's advice below [Edited].
I take it only one key?
A lot of people have replaced the battery in their key fob as per the following guide:
If you cut open your battery case and find a new battery you should be able to get the car open assuming that is the issue.
Other possible faults include a corroded wiring loom.VIN: A175A328***

Hi Zac,
I have both keys, neither of which will work, I have given the passenger door lock a good twist but almost sheared the key off, so I will cut open the now damaged fob to see if the battery is dead, do you know of a way to charge keyfob out of the car? Some kind of induction device I suspect, but not sure.

Is it worth spraying some wd40 into the passenger lock to see if it eases it? I'd suspect the lock is stuck through lack of use.

Hi,
I have read a number of threads on the forum, thanks to all, but I need to open the doors first, to enable further investigation, if the battery in the fob is okay it looks like breaking a window is the only way in, but I'll leave that as a last resort, I have sprayed WD in the passenger lock but it made no difference, I have tried charging the car battery by hooking onto the starter battery lead, but no joy, if there is no mechanical way into the car I am truly stuck, bar breaking a window as stated. I have called land rover assistance but they want mega bucks just to come out and shift it to the stealers, any ideas ?

The emergency lock is very weak and should be treated with care - lubrication helps. If you give it a reasonable twist it will break.
My top tip is to gently turn it in stages whilst pulling the door handle. That why most of the force is coming from the door release mechanism, which is very robust.

Hmm,
The emergency key access could be broken, it does not appear to have any link or lever to hook with the door handle, possibly broken in a previous owners attempt, the key turns ok but does nothing, does anyone know how the mechanism works, I can see into the door aperture and maybe hook a wire in to lift or catch a lever, I'll have a go and see what happens.

Can't help on out of car charging - both my batteries failed within days of each other. Both now fine after replacement.VIN: A175A328***

Regarding charging your existing key fob, I understand strapping it to a toothbrush charger can work, it might give enough charge to activate your locks.
I had the battery on one of mine fail, it would lock the vehicle in the evening but by the morning not enough charge to unlock again. I changed the battery and put it in a new case & got it working again.

Ok thanks for suggestions, I will go down the fob battery replacement route and see if that works, I'll be back to report on findings.

Have cut open fob and checked battery, shows 3.6V, all good there, not sure what to check now, could be transponder or car receiver, either way I have no means of checking those so it looks like an expensive trip to the stealers ,

Call a windscreen guy out and get him to remove and replace the rearmost side glass (don't forget the antenna press-studs at the top).

Looks like the only way in is to break the glass, so got in touch with a glass man & is going to remove & replace the door glass, will report on whether the car works soon, wish me luck.
