1 week in to my new 07 disco 3. |
|
Hello,
Just thought I'd put up a post as was quick to ask for advice which was greatly received.
So I'm a week in to the new disco and I like it!
A few teething problems. Had to change a sticking rear caliper and pads. Had to reset the Epb unit as encountered a problem when installing new shoes.
But being able to do work myself it's not been too bad. It has given me the opportunity to get under the disco and have a real good look. No corrosion and no strange oil or water marks. So I'm happy. Everything works as it should.
It's booked in to get a service on Friday. 245 for full service does not seem too bad. Keeps up the service record rather then doing it myself. If the service does not cover brake fluid (forgot to ask)ill bleed it myself. Just on the way back to ecp to exchange a wrong wiper blade..not the hook type on the 22" boch blades.
I'll be getting the cam belt and fuel pump belt done in the near future for peace of mind. Got 90000 on the clock and is 57 plate.
Missus loves it and it is easy to drive! I'm 6,3 so have enough space! Given it is long because of the 7seats it no hassle. Little bit wide for parking bays and kids!
We put 85 pounds worth of fuel in and it read just about 400 miles trip left. We have done 90 miles and it's seems bang on. So not too bad given 3 ton of vehicle!
Kid is obsessed with rear fold down seats!!
So fingers crossed all is well!!

Glad you're happy.
As yours is a 57 plate and is due the belt service, I'd be watching for the cam belt tensioner failures that seem to affect that year! Catastrophic if it fails when engine running so read up as lots of posts on here about what to change, I would certainly not do the belts without changing the mount that fails as the new tighter belts seem to often cause it to go.
Sorry - not trying to scare you but fore-warned is fore-armed as they say

In which case, belts and new oil pump housing (as per above tensioner mount post) would be a critical piece of work to get done

Thanks for the replies. Thanks for the info.
The disco will be going in to have cam belt and ancillaries changed out. I was quoted 500 all in for the work.
Does that sound about right for everything that goes wrong to be changed??
I certainly like to know the ins and outs rather then burying my head in the sand

Not sure about price but check that the oil pump housing is included as I doubt that's part of the routine work. This issue only affected a short period of time around 07-57 models I beleive.

sounds not too bad to me. I had mine done back in Feb last year at West 4x4 on the South Coast. I got quoted £450 inc VAT which included all the belts front + rear, tensioners x2, the aux belt + 2 idlers. He also fixed a bracket mounting that had sheared so all in I paid £500.
I would double check what they are replacing for the £500 though. Discovery 3, 2006, HSE, 2.7 TDV6, Java Black, EGR Blanked, New belts + tensioners. Autobox flushed +new filter.

Some of the problems caused by the faulty casting on the oil pump onto which sits the cam belt tensioner happened not long after a cam belt change. It is important that the oil pump is of the later design which has a more substantial casting. Watch out for pricing as LR charge double for the same FoMoCo item. Mine was changed recently, and I'm in the same situation as you. I had just brought it, but got it all done just to be cautious. Brought my parts from

I'd also consider getting your gearbox flushed, again more of a preventative thing. No issues with mine, but now feels even better.

Got vehicle back from service. They said it's in good condition which is nice to hear. Had all filters and oil changed.
Break flush not included so ill be getting busy with my pot and hose!
I asked about belts and ancillaries and they said they have only ever heard of one oil pump going in their years of work. That was a new one which was fitted so was covered on warranty luckily enough. They said they normally strip them out and inspect them.
What's people's opinions on this please...?For the sake of 120 notes I'm feeling ill just get one if they are still available..
I can see the oil pump is a well discussed topic and understand the implications if it breaks ect.
Cheers.... Lee

As I mentioned above I would (and did) change. My oil pump was of weaker design when compared, the new tensioner that was fitted by LR main dealer, when belts were changed, was over tightened ( this is where it fails). I also think that warranties are poo, and I'm not willing to risk my work vehicle on them.
I just had new pump, tensioner, and front belt changed this time as they were only done 5thou miles ago.

I would add that it is imperative that the tensioner is tightened to the correct torque settings, bearing in mind that it is being fitted to ALUMINIUM. Also if your D3 is a 57 plate then an up to date oil pump is a must. Peace of mind and all that. 2007 Disco3 2.7 tdv6 SE

No brainier for me, do it and have the peace of mind. It only affected 2007 cars hence why it's not that common but too risky not to IMHO
