New boy! My D3 TDV6 HSE
How do!
After what felt like an endless search, I finally found a D3 and brought it home yesterday.
Coming from a bright orange Ford Focus ST, it's a bit of a culture shock, but I'm really pleased with my Disco.
As you'd probably expect, I'm currently full of questions, so I'll leave them here along with a few photos and let's see where this goes! Looking forward to talking to you all.
Questions:
1. For my old Focus, I managed to find some direct replacement LED units for the number plate lights, and they were great - a really nice little mod. I've searched eBay and can't find anything similar for the D3. All I've found are replacement bulbs (which I didn't have a great experience with on the Focus). Is anyone aware of any full replacement units available?
2. After locking the car, I somehow managed randomly to make the horn do a chirp when I pressed the lock button on the keyfob. This is useful as my cat likes to jump on the bonnets of my cars and I'm hoping this might deter her from doing it on the Disco. It doesn't seem to work consistently - any ideas?
3. Nice short one, this: Is there any USB input for the stereo hidden somewhere in the car?
That'll do for questions for now; I'm sure more will spring forth as the days and weeks pass! Time for some photos...
Looking forward to talking to you all
Cheers
Chris

That's a nice looking example you've got there! My last, non Land Rover, car was a 2010 Focus RS, so we've something in common here Surprisingly, I've had more fun driving the LR's than I ever got from the Focus! I hope you find the same
Can't help you on those specifics (as I have a D4 and things are a little different), but I can recommend talking to Advanced Factors (one of the sponsors here), he will know the answer to all of your LED questions. Also, be sure to buy some of his ultra powerful reversing lamp LED's 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

Nice car.
+1 for advanced factors for you're LED stuff.
The chirp on locking will be a door latch / sensor not making properly, check you're bonnet sensor, that's the usual culprit.
No USB unless you have an ACM fitted, however, there will be a 3.5mm jack in the back of the centre cubby under a flap.

I used their bulbs for my number plate lights and they are really good, also replaced all internal bulbs with LED and the reversing lights. Makes a huge difference.Sill protection - LED internal lights - LED reverse lights - boot liner - Dog Guard - Rock sliders

At that age/spec, there should be a USB input in the centre cubby? (back of the lid).Long succession of Disco's since 2001...

1. There's plenty of the LED replacement bulbs available, many are just the capless W5W type but you'll find an LED replacement for just about every application on the D3. Best bit of advice with these is buy decent quality for external lights and cheaper ones for the interior.
2. The car will parp the horn once upon locking if one of the doors is not properly closed. Unfortunately, on the D3, the bonnet catch is often the main problem with this one parp thing. To prevent it happening, some owners have shorted out the switch on the bonnet catch but others just rely on slamming the bonnet to prevent it happening.Mods:

Cheers everyone!
I'm busy having a look at the AF site now - will be looking at placing an order this week. I'm quite surprised that nobody's made a full sealed LED number plate unit yet - in my experience, they're so much better than simply swapping out the bulbs!
Re the horn parp - I did read in the manual that it happened when something wasn't properly closed, but it's only done it a few times, and it only seems to happen if I mash the lock button over and over. Odd. So am I right in thinking there's no way of having the car make a noise with the key (under normal circumstances)?
DaveT - I'll have a good close look at the cubby tomorrow, but I did a quick look the other day and didn't notice a USB input. Having read a little more about the ACM, I'll also check the top glovebox - thanks tayaste.
Red Merle - I would've given an internal organ to get a Mk2 RS after the ST, but the reason I got rid of the ST was that it only had 4 seats; I have 3 kids from a previous relationship and I've just got married, so I need somewhere for the wife to sit! It's quite a change, but I think I'm adapting pretty well.

Done a little more reading and found out about the panic alarm from the key fob (although that's a bit overkill to scare the cat - think I'll keep the FMH lights on the fob!
Also looked high & low, no USB
However, first little mod completed today! I'll add a pic once the gallery issue's sorted.

Nice looking D3. I also have a D3 09 HSE - there's no USB input. I've added a couple of USB sockets in the glove compartment and a Belkin iPod adapter that wires into the audio loom in the passenger footwell.2016 Skoda Octavia VRS Estate

Haha, nothing quite so adventurous - although that would be pretty unique!
What I mean is a sealed LED light unit that replaces the bulb/lens combo for the plate lights. Had one on my Focus and it worked so much better than just putting an LED bulb into the old lens.

Maybe unique on a D3/4 but not on other cars.
The TVR Griffith had one as I recall.
Would make an awesome project too. Mods:
