Sad

New brake pipes are fairly easy. Just replace the rear sections and splice the new pipe onto original behind the propshaft heat shields where there won't be the same amount of corrosion.

Some people have managed to change the propshaft bearing but it is a tricky job (unless you have a specialist propshaft overhaul company available) and not always successful. Best to buy a new propshaft which includes the centre bearing. A very quick and clean job.

Back in for test today. Getting my local garage to do the work as I don't have the time or space at the moment.

Fingers crossed the bill isn't too big!

My 2010 D4 failed last year on the corrode brake pipes - my local indie charged £120 for the work - most of that was labour as replaced with copper.

I use a local garage called Bayview in Kirkwall. They set up about a year ago but i have known the mechanics a lot longer. They are not Land Rover specialists and I have to tell them clearly what I need done and how to do it but can't fault them so far.

For anything more complex (that can wait) and for servicing I try and tie this in with a trip south and then would try and get Disco Mike to do the work. Last time he had the benifit of my HGV workshop in Bathgate to work in!

Well, got the car back last week with fresh MOT and no advisories!! Very Happy

But, I thought it was a little underpowered on the way home, especially on mild inclines and at junctions. I thought it was my imagination as I have been taking an empty brand new Sprinter van home whilst the Disco has been in the garage.

Anyway, my wife has just brought it into me at work saying it is definatly underpowered and making a squeeling noise! Shocked I've just taken it for a drive and it feels like the brakes are binding and on feeling the wheels, the NSF and OSR are both hot.

Is there anything obvious that is causing this, bearing in mind that it has just had new brake lines fitted?

It's going back to the garage tomorrow.

Sounds like seized calipers. Maybe pushing the pistons back in if they are rusty has jammed them up?

Thanks Gareth, that's kind of what I was thinking! I feel a bit out of control over what has been done to the car as I've been putting it to a garage recently (due to a lack of time and space!). Will see what they say in the morning.

This time I knew the brake lines were dodgy as I could see they were starting to weep just before I put it for MOT. My Mazda 2 was the same and had visibly corroded pipes although they looked better that the ones on the Discovery, they burst whilst the brakes were being tested at MOT. Didn't fancy chancing that with the Discovery!

Is it the front or rear brakes that are hot? If it's the rears then it could be the parking brakes haven't been adjusted properly?
