Locked inside my Disco

We have just arrived to our destination and my (drivers) door won't open. All doors are fine except this one. When sitting in it and pressing middle console buttons it will lock and unlock all doors except this one. When pressing key fob to lock the car I have horn sound like door would be left open.
I can only leave the car by climbing over to passenger side.
I need some help here.

Sounds like the lock solenoid has had its day. Start the car and let it run to get the most voltage to the solenoid and operate the central locking whilst gently / slightly operating the handle.

If that does not work but you can still here it trying to do something you can disconnect the power to the other doors so as to provide current for the poorly lock alone.

Beyond that you are looking at providing direct and increasing voltage to the lock via a suitable point on the loom.

Should that fail move the driver's seat back, recline it and remove the seat cushion via the 4 torx fasteners underneath. This provides enough space to remove the door card itself.

There may be other options I have not yet used!

Good luck & keep us posted.

Car was parked for an hour now. Tried opening it from outside with no joy. When sat before in the car right mechanism was silent when other doors made noise. I will be going home in a minute and I will give it more attention. For now I will have to scramble in via passenger door.

Update...
I can't open the door by pressing the button and pulling the door handle for the outside. Car was parked for a long time and that did not fix it. Have we got step by step manual what to open and destroy in the door itself to fix it? I'm a bit Censored with it and can't imagine my Mrs getting in via passenger door. That's very pathetic design error. Imagine this during an emergency and people would die as a result of this JLR would be sued a big big time and disco would be branded killing machine. Can't believe LR did not fix this problem as a recoll. I'm annoyed now!!! Need some alcohol!!!

Scotland

My Daughter in Law had the same problem with her X5.

I had to spring the door card and manually release the lock using a bent bit of wire - lots of fun.

It's not really a JLR issue alone as I am struggling to think of a modern car that does not use solenoids for door locking. Most things have a design life and in truth this lock may have been a bit pants for a while and may not have been locking the driver's door some of the time.

Do you think disconecting a battery could fix it? Im just thinking what to do before destroying the door card.

No need to destroy the door card, just remove the screws having cleared enough space as I described above.

None of the above worked.
When you mentioned disconection of power supply to other door to give max voltage to problem door how can I disconnect them quickly? Do I have to take off door cards and fiddle with each door to some how unplug the wires from the door latch or is there a cable connection more easily available?

Does the door solenoid make any noise at all when you try to unlock/open it? If not, then I think that Robbie's suggestions on how to increase the voltage/current to the solenoid may not be relevant as the solenoid may be u/s.

My understanding of his suggestions was/is that:

1 If it is 'trying' to open the door (ie you can hear something from within the drivers door) then try the various electrical measures as they may help
2 If no noise can be heard from within the door then you are looking at removing the seat base in order to then remove the door card

So far as your earlier comment re being able to open the door in an emergency and JLR opening themselves to litigation, I can't help but feel that the probability of having a crash at the same time as the door solenoid fails would be so small as to be irrelevant (and would also apply to most modern cars for that matter)

Thanks waterbuoy for your advise.
Door is trying to do something as there is a sound of mechanism operating but unsuccessfully.
What electrical measure do you have in mind?

How can I disconnect power to other doors to provide max power to this faulty door?
I have some good understanding of the mechanics in the car but I'm useless with electrics, so please plain English when explaining.

Over to Robbie's initial post on this one I'm afraid - I have (thankfully) not had to dismantle the doors myself (yet) but have had the rear tailgate latch issue.

Good luck!

I have called around and price is £92.94+VAT Part number has been changed to LR072413 and parts sales person told me it has been redesigned but he cant guarantee it will perform any better than the old part. Have we got a confirmation anywhere on our forum? This part is made for Evoque and FL2.

So Its not that cheep any more to fix it.
Its getting better... Big Cry
