Help! Discovery engine gone
We brought a 2008 discovery 3 with 75k on the clock. In December we had the cam belt and a service at a landrover garage and a couple of weeks ago the engine went. We took it to the landrover garage and apparently we need a new engine and it's going to cost 9.5k!!! Has anyone got a suggestions on what we can do?
Thanks

If it's been fully serviced by LR, then they may assist with it. Talk to Customer Services

A. I would want to know why it went?
B. have you get it a dealer or independent, that seems a lot of a replacement engine, might as well buy another one and strip it for parts>==================================

Same thing happened to me in 2014 . My advice is to contact land rover customer services . After a investigation by a Land Rover main dealer . Land rover paid & fitted a new engine to my 2008 (99k miles) DISCOVERY . I had to provide evidence of a full service history [but not all my services have been done by a main dealer ]
Good luck

I found a secondhand engine a few years back, but the dealers wouldn't do the work, they would only fit a new one. I wouldn't use one of these companies that promises refurbished engines or too cheap a price. Try CWS breakers in Yeovil or metal monster junk (sponsor) and find s la decent Indy, book time for LR I believe is around 22 hours for body off and on.Joined the BMWX5 45e group

Sounds suspiciously like an oil pump failure, with the belts done 2 months ago... A call to LRCC, it is My D3 Build Thread

Thanks all for your responses will be on the phone to lr in the morning, as regards of to how to approach them on this matter anyone have any advice. We are unsure as to what's caused this the car went in to have new belt and idler checked as first thought belt had skipped lr said all their work carried out was fine. So then went onto investigating the engine had the sump of and it was full of metal as well as the oil filter. So didn't take the investigation further.
Appreciate the help
Cheers Will

Sounds like the oil pump casing onto which is bolted the timing belt tensioner. When this has occurred previously it is often after a recent belt change. Sorry to hear of your problem. There is a lot of info on this site regarding claiming off LR but it is going to be a fight. Best of luck.2007 Disco3 2.7 tdv6 SE

Go in unannounced, and inspect the oil filter! If it has been fitted incorrectly at the service, this will be what has caused the failure
So they already checked the timing belt and said everything was good?

Yes have already checked belt and have said "everything is fine" so when they were carrying out this inspection wouldn't they notice a failure in the oil pump casing around where their new tensioner was bolted? I have read up about asking for bolt torque reports etc. Couldn't see many threads on lrcs engine claims.

Yes said all was ok, Mikey how come the filter would cause this ? Should I be looking to see if the filter is dented like pictured?
The crushed filter restricts oil flow, the piston jets fail, the pistons overheat and bye bye crank... Current: Discovery 3 06MY (55 reg) HSE Auto Zambezi Silver Allisport Fast Road Intercooler, V8 Brakes, Silicone IC Hoses, EGRs Blanked, Remapped, De-Cat pipe, FBHIC

Crushed filter is caused by incorrect fitting. If the fitter does not line up the spigot on the filter, with the socket in the engine, and just tightens the casing down, then the oilway is blocked, the filter crushed and its inevitable that somethings going to break.
