Okay, I'm clearly going about this the wrong way. Let's try this:
Hi guys
I'd like to try this 'mod', but I've got some questions that I don't know the answer to despite reading the thread through a couple of times.
The advice says to disconnect the battery, but I'm just checking - my car isn't going to get a strop on when I reconnect afterwards, right? Like 'forget' it's ignition key, or anything like that?
On the photos, the breakout wires appear to be on the 'top' of each fuse position. Is that right, or even relevant?
Do I have to splice two of the Halfords breakout fuses together to create each lead - I can't buy leads that already have a fuse on each end?
Apologies for what might seem excessive caution. I'm very nervous about electrical items but since my pleas have fallen on deaf ears I'll have to give it a go - just wanted to be double sure I can't 'break' anything!
Yes top is relvevant, you want a feed that is not interrupted if the supply fuse blows, there is a live side to each fuse you need to feed this from the AFS to the side light circuit & the side light circuit is then still protected by its fuse when powered from the AFS fuse feed
Yes join together, no pre made lead with a fuse in each end

Sounds like you have it right then Various parts of the car shut down over time and it is not truly asleep for quite a while. Test it by leaving for 15 mins unlocked and with doors closed. Lights will have gone off. Open a door and they will come on again.
Evening Andy
All tested and you were right.
After around 15 mins all the lights went out. Opened a door and on they all came.
I rechecked the fuses and all ok and defiantly in the right places.
Thanks again for all your help and advice.

But they should still go off instantly when you lock the vehicle.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

There is a battery saver relay on the D3 but from memory the circuit design makes it less convenient than the D4. I'll have a think when I get chance to study the wiring.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

Yup, worked fine for me too. Genuinely can't believe someone would put a fusebox *there* - I had to get my KIDS to try and put those fuses in for me! Works absolutely fine, but have to admit I'd have preferred a brighter front!
Does it matter which way up the breakout fuses go ?
What I mean is on your photo on the CJB, the lower fuses have the breakout wire on the upper contact of the fuse, the upper connections have one at the top, one at the bottom ?
I am thinking that if they are wrong something may not end up being protected by a fuse ?

I think it matters and I try to arrange things so that every possible current path has a fuseable link. What you want to avoid is taking a feed from the battery side of one fuse location and linking it to the device side at the other fuse location, as that would become a direct jumper wire.

Quick question on this to you guys that have done it.
I'm wanting to tackle this simple mod but wondered have any of you guys that have done it suffered any issues from the continual use of the fairy lights e.g bulb problems?
Assuming not I'll get the mini fuses ordered

Nope. It is just like driving with your sidelights or headlights on all the time so I don't expect any issues. Discovery 4 SDV6 HSE '65 - Projects in planning phase!

Did this a couple of months ago (after a period of trepidation on whether I could manage it ) and had no adverse effects whatsoever.
