Time for Partial Retirement

Well, that time has finally arrived. It had to happen eventually, but today I signed on the dotted line and this time next week, my D3 will be put into partial retirement when a nearly new Audi A3 arrives.

I made this decision based upon my heart and my wallet. After 11 years and nearly 170k miles, this has been the best car I have owned in 37 years of driving. Hardly ever caused me grief and now I am doing much of my own servicing and repairs, the bills have not been too high. Plus I have Geoff. nearby when needed Thumbs Up

Another factor was the residual value of the D3. Although it had 7 years of LR service, the last 4 have been done by me - with more frequent oil changes than recommended. Whilst I think I have treated it better than a dealer / LR service schedule, a prospective buyer may not see it that way.

And of course, there is the emotional attachment Big Cry

The great thing about keeping it is we still have it for "hi days and holidays (towing caravan)", when (if) the snow comes, big loads to the tip and when I have had enough of looking like a sales rep on the M25, I just take the D3. Oh, perhaps I wont be quite so worried about dirty dog paws in the back.

And finally - when doing some maintenance, no worries about finishing before the drive to work on Monday and I still have a reason to be on here Bow down

In her retirement use her once a week. They get stroppy otherwise. Whistle

I agree re the emotional attachment, I talk to mine regularly and could swear she talks back to me. Embarassed

I am expecting my wife to say "why do you keep taking the Disco to work?" I have already started thinking of the excuses; pot holes, deer on lane, etc
