Thanks heaps for sharing your R&D...

I thinks that's a pretty good guess, though I have not tried that particular length...
Now that I have my measurements, I'm going to fab an adjustable set with a quick release to easily move between standard link lengths and new lengths. 06 LR3 V8 SE HD

Hi Disco303, by doing this, how are the tires kept aligned? Someone pointed out to me that it would seem if the frame is moving up and the upper control arm is mounted to the frame, the tow would be greatly effected resulting in advanced/uneven tire wear.
Anybody have thoughts? I don't have enough understanding of how the D3 compensates alignment through its different height modes. I'm not so good at giving advice...may I offer you a sarcastic comment instead?

Sideview is right IMHO, the geometry set would need to be done before an alignment at the new height. You could see if the dealer will do one and doesn't notice.
Probably best to attach both and change for dirt driving where tyre wear would not be affected. Some posted a pic of the spare attached to the arm. Getting there is half the fun

Exactly, there is no sense driving with the shortened sensors every day. Just swap them out at the trail head. They are so easy to do, I wouldn't even bother having both 'attached' at the same time. Just change them out all together. God forbid the loose one gets eaten up by a control arm on the trail.

Ahh when you said after a month and 1000 miles no problems, I assumed you meant you were running them permanently I'm not so good at giving advice...may I offer you a sarcastic comment instead?

That is what I said, and they have been on permanently....
For those worried about tire wear, just swap the links at the trail. 06 LR3 V8 SE HD

Truer words were never spoken. My factory tires were at 7K miles. Off they went for Nittos. Ever notice that when lowered, the wheels angle inward at the top? At normal height they don't always look straight. Just maybe off road height could cause normal tire wear.

Hi Disco303.
I wish I'd seen this solution a few weeks ago as I already had from a previous vehicle, 285/65 x18's which are about 32.7 and rubbed in a test, primarily on the steel plate protrusion on the frame just behind each front wheel. You know which part I'm talking about? Besides a little tight area inside the front of the rear wheel wells, this was the worst thing I saw with 32+ tires. So, figuring there was no "good" solution, I went ahead and got the same tires BFG AT ko in 265/65 x18 which are just about 31.7" figuring that I's want clearance for snowchains sometimes too.
What do you think about the chains aspect and the tires you are using? You're in the snow country where 3 years ago I had to dig my D1 out on a few winter climbing approach trails where I should have stopped sooner and hiked farther instead. That said, I am mainly looking for total height clearance as opposed to wild articulation.
What's the Holy Cross trail you drive? I almost climbed the main center gully when I was there but conditions weren't safe and the approach road was 8 miles just to get into the trail head. It was early March and I had already hiked up a few 13rs, Mt. Elbert (one place I got stuck in and dug out). So, I went and climbed Longs Peak solo via and ice gully and rappelled down. Pretty awesome land you are in for lots of things.
Oh yeah, my question is also about highway driving "to" places you go offroad...how's the handling at the higher setting and highway speeds? The D1 and D2 never seemed bad at all lifted 2", and the D2 was in fact more responsive on medium duty OME lift than stock. 96 Disco I, 200,000 miles
04 Disco II, Vienna/Tundra, +2" lift, onboard air, 120V...

The 10mm shortened work like a charm and the new off road hight is awsome
The cv joints dont seem to be out of line to much, so seems ok. I will use them only for off roading as I agree with previous posts about wheel alignment issues. Maybe after warrenty expires and if I am happy with the setup I may leave them on and have some wheel alignment work done to compensate for the mod.
