Vibration when stationary

I'm not sure whether it's my imagination/result of work/impending doom, but since having a new turbo fitted a couple of months ago following the "Restricted Performance", when I come to a standstill with the car in Drive (foot on brake pedal), there is noticeable engine vibration that comes through the car. Take it out of Drive and the vibration goes away. I imagine that it's all to do with the gearbox, and is oil related (as it's worse when cold), but I can't remember it doing it before the new turbo was fitted.

Mine has, and always has had a certain amount of engine vibration at idle in drive. Mostly felt through the steering wheel.

It's annoying but I've always thought it a characteristic of the car. It goes away as soon as I drive off.

You may want to check your vacuum engine mounts, each one has a pipe fitted on the bottom that can easily come adrift. They are designed to adjust the mounts at idle/open throttle.

You can remove the pipe at idle and check for vacuum, which should deminish/disappear at open throttle.

Thumbs Up

Sorry don't have a photo, pretty sure they weren't on my 3, but they are there on my 2012 3.0 TDV6.

I can feel it through the whole car, not just the steering wheel. It goes, like yours as soon as the brakes are released or it's put into Neutral/Park, and is better when it's warm. I'm certain that it didn't do it before the turbo was replaced.

I'll see if I can see the mounts.

Thanks chaps.

My discovery 4 had this problem, the vibration was only there when stationary and was worse on longer journeys. The dealer found that it was the exhaust pipe (drivers side) vibrating against the chassis. They realigned it, and the vibration never reoccurred.

Could be a good call Woody. The car's going in to have its suspension bushes sorted in a week or so, so I'll get them to have a good look.

Thanks to all for the suggestions.

I reported this same vibration to my dealer 2 years ago and mentioned if to them just before the car went out of warranty. A long storey short the car went in several times and they could not find what the problem was. The symptom is at stationary I feel lumpy vibration on steering and through the car console.
To tell you the truth dealer have been persistent and I insisted that there was a problem and it was not normal. Anyway they found that one of the engine mount vacuum was blocked and when they air blew it they found a tiny lump of silicon. WoW my problem was resolved BUT!! after a week the problem has re-emerged and they think that it either a faulty vacuum pump or one or both engine mounts is not working correctly.

Dealer is speaking to Landrover for costs and my car is going back in for parts replacement.

Hi xyplex.

Wondered if you got to the bottom of vibration issue. Did the dealer replace the mounts or vac pump ?

If it had been the vacuum pump, the machine would not brake well, vacuum is also used for the brake servo
