Amazing D3 Jumpstart.
I just arrived back from a 3 day trip to amsterdam with my two mates Andy linton and Andy Green we were going to drive home in Andy Lintons D3, he recently had a new battery fitted due to a dead cell.
When we arrived at the short stay car park in dublin airport and attempted to start the car all we got was a vague clicking noise.
Having no jump leads or anything with us we looked around for some help from the carpark personell, and having waisted time at that. We rang the AA and got the usual 1 hour estimate. So Andy green suggested that we jump start the car from the 18v de walt drill battery that was in the car, need less to say we had a bit of a laugh, then decided as we had a hour to kill we might as well try anyway.
So i go two screws to facilatate attaching some wires to the battery, the only wire we had in the car was some cat 5 not realy the right thing to use but needs must. i jamed the screws in the battery and twisted the cat 5 on to it and twisted the other ends around the battery terminals.
we measured the battery volts before we connected it was 11.2v. to say that the cat 5 got a bit hot would be an understatment but it didnt melt.
we left this connected for about 5 minutes untill the cat 5 started to cool down, indicating that less current was being drawn at this point the battery voltage was reading 12.86v the de walt battery was also nice and warm at this point.
then we gave the nod to andy linton who turned the key and hey presto, to our amazement, one started D3.
