Weekend projects complete - Rear tire carrier and more...

I spend a 3 day weekend installing my new Tactical 4x4 rear bumper with swing away tire carrier, Firestik CB Antenna, LLAMS Suspension Controller, and put the roof rack back on with accessories, and mud tires back on. Whew, I need a day off to recover!

Now I'm all ready to go wheeling this weekend!! Very Happy

Attempting to preserve the rear parking sensors - didn't work before, still don't work, but now there is a tire in the way permanently. May attempt to fix one day but don't ever want to get dependent on that beep ever again!! 8)

Easy operation with a good gas strut that holds the swing arm open

Now it's got that true Discovery heritage look!

I like the location of the Firestik antenna - intentionally kept the length at roof height for winter parking clearance issues w/o the roof rack in an underground garage. Still need to tune the antenna.

I ordered the bumper with an angled tire carrier to conform to the angle of the rear end. Looks great.

Ready for Spring Convention this weekend in Northern Minnesota!

Recovery button mounted in the soft rubber flap under the steering column, perfect place for it where it won't get accidentally pushed.

Looking forward to another full season of off-roading. Our biggest trip will be hitting Moab in September for the National LR rally, can't wait.

Not yet, and not sure that I ever will. It's a straight 50" bar and a curved bar would be much more suitable for a D3. I laid it on the roof above the wind screen to see how it would look but with a roof rack in place it wouldn't work very well. I'm thinking of posting it up on a local forum to see if I can sell it. LED light bars are so cheap nowadays I wouldn't expect to get much for it (at least the Chinese versions anyway). I think it was listed for around $400-$475USD if I remember correctly.

I'm more interested in figuring out how to mount and wire a couple of small spot LED lights I've acquired on the rear end somewhere. This is one area I don't have any experience in, wiring lights! Wish there was a kit I could install, and poof, instant lighting. Laughing

Disconels,

Just took delivery of my Tactical Rovers rear bumper. Thanks for posting your photos. Going to have a few friends over to put it on the 28th.
Any issues with the install other than it is a remove and replace? You are the closest thing to a video I have seen, with stills.

When I took delivery I discovered they had drilled the threads out of the internal welded nut for the swing away tire carrier (put on the wrong size nut) so they supplied me with a longer bolt and a nut to hold it on. My request was for it to be removable so I would only use it for Overlanding not DD. Difficult with no threads in the nut.

Is there enough room between the body and the bumper to reach up to the welded nut? Otherwise I may have to drill out a hole at the bottom of the bumper to reach up to install and remove the supplied nut.

Your help will be appreciated,
Morris

Krick3tt ,

I'm travelling for business for a couple of days and can't remember vividly enough to answer your question. When I return on Thursday I can take a look under the bumper for you. I do know that I had direct access to the other side as I drilled a hole to bolt my firestik antenna and had my hand up there to reach the bolt on the underside. Based on that I'd say yes you have access to the end of the long bolt.

I'll double check and let you know. Excited for you and your awesome bumper. Did you get it with the extra tree bars? Mine paid off already as I had to use the hi-lift to jack up on it to get my drivers door off a tree.
