7 Years Old Today!! (25/11/11) |
|
Where has the time gone!
My D3 is 7 years old today. And after driving it almost every day for more than 2500 days and just over 150,000 miles, at some point in almost every trip I still catch myself smiling. Perma-grin really is a lasting effect.
When I first picked it up, I could drive for a few days without passing another Disco 3 and it caught the eye of people who would turn round to watch it as I drove past (nothing to do with me or my driving I hasten to add!). Now... well now there are a few more about!!
I never intended to keep it for anything like this long - in fact, it's about twice as long as I've ever kept a car before. But there is no way that even now I would part with it unless for an upgrade... and that time is almost upon me. My new D4 is due at the dealers any time now, so over the next day or two I will be putting the D3 up for sale.
I'm really looking forward to all the D4 has to offer, but it will be tinged with sadness at the loss of an amazing car that has served me faithfully for a very long time. D4 XS MY12 Galway

Yeah - feels that way!
So:
Does anyone have an older one?
Has anyone owned the same D3 for longer?
Or can I claim some forum records? D4 XS MY12 Galway

I just can't bring myself to part with mine, yep the D4 is nice but for me it's not as likeable as the D3. They moved the terrain response dial forward and made the cupholders too far back and harder to use as a result, it's a wee bit too bling for me in places and no full manual box that was the real killer for me. My D3 still looks brand new, they have a look that just doesn't date ... look at any other manufacturer's car of the same year and you'll see instantly .... the Freelander 1 was still on sale when my D3 was released and it looks so dated now.
Nope I take my hat off to you for taking the leap and I by no way am suggesting the D4 is any lesser of a great car because from other D4 users posts it's clearly not, it's just not for me. I LOVE my D3 and I'm looking to waxoyl wrap and keep it for as long as it'll run. Plus with a nice custom gray leather interior with black piping it's such a nice place to be inside.
Also while LR have this habit of bringing out motors with black plastic arches etc then colour coding them in later revisions I actually like the contrast between my silver and black 8) plus plastic wheel arches hit the overhanging branches and shrubs first and unlike paint don't scratch so really it's far more practical.
That aside though I hope you love your D4 and get just as much pleasure out of it and just as many great smiling miles behind the wheel

My D3 was first registered 26/11/2004 by Town ansd County in Aberdeen as a demonstrator. I am the third owner and have had it for 2 years but it has only covered 63,800 miles in 7 years. Don't use it an awful lot, but the permagrin is definately there when I do.

My original D3 would be (is) 7 on Tuesday. YE54 DVA where are you now?
I sold it at 130k miles for peanuts. Should have kept it really. The current D3 is just as good, but something to be said about 'first love'

one of the issues I have had for the past 12 months, financially should have sold him ages ago, been too emotionally attached which in turn has cost me £1000's.
On the other hand, its earnt me £1000's so balances out in the end
next stop, Iveco Daily C70 LWB with sleeper cab and Brian James tri-axle car transporter - just go to do me next jump up ye old driving licence

Yep, mine is from august 2004. VIN 0330 so there must be older ones.
I'll look up what day if an older one comes by...
I have only owned it since January 2009 though.

OK - that is old for a D3! Presumably a LR car of some sort originally? I don't think the first standard retail ones in the UK reached the dealers until late October 2004 at the earliest - although the press launch was April. D4 XS MY12 Galway

Dutch vehicle registry says first registered 01-08-2004 but I'm sure the vehicle papers say different. Will have a look tomorrow if I remember to do so.
I cannot remember where I read this, but my VIN is in the 'preproduction' range.
