Dad + Son - Suggestions for Wild Camping in Scotland with D3

Hi All

My son who's 15 is really into wildlife, fishing, survival, bushcraft, etc.

About a month and a half ago, my son has asked me (intimated) to go camping with him, just the 2 of us in Scotland; which I thought amazing! but although i'm a person with many talents, i have no experience in camping or let alone wild camping.

Do you know of any great places that is reachable by the D3, which is wild enough to provide fishing, make a fire and experience the outdoors in Scotland for a week pls?

The idea that is forming in my head, is to utilise the D3 boot space with the seats lowered with couple of inflatable matts & sleeping bags, so we can protect ourselves from the weather, etc; and use some kind of canopy attached to the d3 to create a dry seating/eating area.

Is this possible? Sensible?

Many thanks

Lucio

Great fishing of the rocks at the end of the road past the light house and down to the old WWII jetty this area is the where the Salmon and sea trout run into Loch Ewe and up the River Ewe to Loch Maree.

This is Firemore sands on Loch Ewe, not strictly wild camping just an honest box for a small charge as the locals preserve the area. There are no facilities there.

There are no green lanes or other similar roads in Scotland, so if looking to go off-road you would need the land owners permission. So that might limit your 'wildness' experience a bit.

It might be better to take a tent and do a combination of a couple of nights on a site, then a couple wild and another one or two on a site. If you don't have much camping experience just heading out into the wilds probably isn't the best idea.

Lots of places where you can camp and fish all day though, with no road access.

Be careful, sea fishing is fine, but don't try fishing for salmon or sea trout even in an estuary, defo not a river or a loch without permission or a permit or you'll end up being chased by the Baliffs at best, the Polis at worse.

We have a day tent that attaches to the D3...very similar to the LR OEM tent.
Happy to lend it if you are heading past this way anyway.
