6speed 100k gearbox maintenance

Hello

My D4 6sp is now 10 years old and 103k miles. It had a gearbox flush at 50k and my thinking is that now at 100k it should have a flush and filter change. Am i correct or is a filter change on its own enough (obv with oil at same time)? Not trying to cut costs, purely to do the best for the car to preserve it.

Fluid is the most important.

A lot of people deem a filter change not necessary unless you are experiencing issues. If the filter is changed, you have two options:
1. Replace with a plastic sump and built in filter (apparently can be a pig to fit due to fact the crossmember has to be removed).
2. Replace with a metal sump and separate filter (prone to leaks as difficult to get a good seal)

I would flush the fluid and keep the filter in place. This is what I did to my 6 speed.

Isn't it part of one of the services? Im sure i had the filter changed on my last service, which i think was the 9 year?

I would be planning to do the filter as part of any works. Can’t see it causing any problems by doing it

Good luck with it Thumbs Up

Are you planning on the two part or the single part filter/sump?

Whatever the indie does. Think he mentioned the metal sump pan last time we spoke.

Hopefully it won't leak. I have my fingers crossed for you.

You can use a composite pan meant for a BMW X5, too. It’s got the filter separate and the pan won’t rust and leak unlike some Terrafirma pans.
