can anyone put my mind at ease over my park brake. i've had my landy 2 weeks now (2nd hand) and yesterday i did approx 50 miles with no faults. I nipped in a shop 3 miles from home. got back in the landy and drove off, after a short time the red alarm led in the dash started flashing, no other warning light lit up and no message in the drivers panel. thought nowt of it and just drove home. parked up on the drive applied the park brake and the light came on as normal and switched off the engine. i switched the ignition back on and the drivers panel said ' handbrake fault '. i started the engine all the lights went out apart from red handbrake light which when out when i released the handbrake. it drove as normal no yellow or red light flashing or any message in the drivers panel. i came to park it up and the park applied as it should and the red park light came on. im just worried that might find my landy in my neighbours front room by his fire one morning. if the brake is applied and it stops the landy from rolling away, is there any chance it might just release itself while parked up?

Lost my screaming virginity this afternoon
My reward for washing the b y thing! Selected off-road height to gain access to wheel arches, with engine running, starting from access height (to wash roof).
1. no rise from normal height
2. Message "RAISING VEHICLE HEIGHT SLOWLY"
3. Was gently driving forwards and backwards to be kind to the suspension as it went from access to off-road height
4. Applied EPB - SCREAMER
5. Depressed EPB lever - SCREAMER
6-26. Tried everything WOULD NOT RELEASE. Couldn't find that blasted wire loop
27 Rang LRA - at least I gave Angela her first screamer as it did it when I turned on the ignition to give her the mileage and it matched the peak frequency transmission of the telephone.
28. Out came very friendly chap called Andy (they're all nice, these Andys)
29. EPB screamed and released, "jus'like-that"
Still he gave it a good coat of looking at, a test run and several EPB-applications on the move. Can't see the point of that UNLESS the EPB-at-speed DOES apply the drum brake as well as its party piece with the ALB/EBA system and the hazards...
He also gave me an alternate view on adjustment. His preferred method is
a. level ground (I don't have ANY )
b. both back wheels in the air; wheels off
c. back adjustments right OFF, then RIGHT UP SOLID, then BACK 10(ten) CLICKS.
Less than 10 clicks he says results in binding / overheating; more than 10 = too much electromechanical travel for the li' ole w/w motor down there => screamer.
Finally, FWIW - lad I am sure it won't let go on you, but better safe than sorry !
PS Andy found the wire loop - it's a dinky little thing, tucked away more towards the middle than you might expect, when you're poking about behind the EPB lever. He managed to select low box with his index finger in there! The loop does NOT look strong enough to cope with the forces described on other threads here.. 06 TDV6 SE Tonga Green

sounds like you have had abit of a bad time there andrew. ive never seen anyone on here saying the parkbrake has released on its own once applied but reading the posts you never know what might happen at anytime. thats my worry. ive been in it tonight and its been parked on a hill a couple of times, and its been ok, made sure the park brake was applied and holding the landy before leaving it in gear and getting out. but i looked over my shoulder while walking away

Hmm! Wheels turned into the kerb or a brick?
Funnily enough it was a pleasant experience , especially the excellent LRA phone contact and service chappie. Apparently he "does" a neighbour's Aston Martin - I didn't know anyone round here had one of those!
New event, new concept
After the shenanigans (Irish spell-checker, please!) depicted above, I played around with the EPB. Everywhere I have to park is at least 20º from the horizontal, so I NEED it to work...
APPLYING THE EPB WHILST IN "N" AND LOW RATIO, I GET A PARTIAL SCREAM. SELECT HIGH RATIO AND I DON'T. THIS IS REPEATABLE. DOES THE EPB TRY HARDER WHEN IN LOW BOX (FIGURING IT NEEDS TO WORK HARDER)

I've had more screamers in L than H. No idea if that's because of the conditions I was driving in at the time though Going, going...... Gone!

Maybe it is psychosomatic!
I was GOING to go to Tong tomorrow and would have blamed that for EPB problems. I can't go now, so the problems came anyway.

Tried it in low ratio and applied the handbrake. No sound at all, even switched between low and high with the hand brake on and still no sound.

I have recently had the park brake replaced (Burnt out) after locking on. Only manual release would disengage brake. Slates WC 4x4

No problems so far with the parking brake. It's held tight on 20 degree inclines, but haven't tried it on decline slopes yet.

When it works - it works!! 45° no problem...
Just sometimes doesn't work at all with screaming
Actually I am now convinced that the noise comes from the BRAKE DRUMS. I can't see how, from my limited understanding of the system, but I got to a state of reliably creating screamers AT WILL and listening all round the vehicle each time the EPB was applied... Noise DEFINITELY came from the wheels, not EPB mechanism area. But how? 06 TDV6 SE Tonga Green

Andrew, the noise may sometimes be louder at the wheels; when the torque clutch in the EPB slips/screams it will be continually catching/slipping. This pulsing will be transferred from the EPB to the brake shoes via the cables, so your shoes will be pulsing at the same frequency.
In my case the loudest scream is definitely centred at the EPB itself; but that could be because my shoes are tight against the drum (read tight against the clay which is tight against the drum ) and yours aren't quite so snug and can therefore vibrate.
Just my opinion Give a man a fire and he's warm for the day. But set fire to him and he's warm for the rest of his life.

Sounds logical; there isn't anything in the drum assembly that would create the noise (as far as I know).
BUT - I can still create screamers at will, but only in LOW BOX. I can also get out of stuck EPB without the loop pull. So far, anyway.
But why only in low box Anyone .. .. .. You there, at the back - Yes, YOU 06 TDV6 SE Tonga Green

hey all. i dont know if this has been mentioned b4, i kinda chickend out reading all 26 pages of this thread. but when mine went in 4 her steering rack, i mentioned that my epb was squeaking a bit, so was was looked at and they did whatever they needed to do. my parents also went in a week later for same thing. apparently they were more than happy to do this because LR have just forwarded a bulletin thingy and dealers get paid for work. bit of a money spinner so i was quietly told.
am soz if this has been mentioned earlier. ' ermy' 2007 D3 tdv6 xs java black.
