Seems to me that quite a few folk have had to pay for EPB clean & adjust at dealers
IMHO this should, without quibbling, be covered by warranty
I'm wondering if anyone has pursued the recovery of costs through the small claims court system?
I wonder if LR would contest a claim (few hundred £'s) or not?
I think I'll phone LRCC tomorrow to see if they will pay for mine to be fixed and how they'ed react to a SCC claim 42.25 feet of sheer luxury ...

Maybe it's time for a class action I always advise people never to give advice.

I think the dealers who do fix the epb under warranty are probably doing it as a goodwill gesture on their part. I don't think Land Rover are paying any dealers to fix.
This means if you treat your dealer well over time, they may choose to reward you (and hopefully retain your custom) by not passing the cost on.
I may be wrong, but its the impression I have got.

I agree G but if this is the case then it's wholly unfair on the dealer and customers...afterall a third of the vehicle cost is there to cover warranty issues. I cannot believe that they have progressed into the D4 without addressing this I always advise people never to give advice.

If the EPB mechanism is caked in mud, grit etc and fails, then I would see it fair to charge a customer to clean it out.
If it goes out of adjustment or fails through normal use between services (where part of the service charge is to cover adjustment), then it should be covered under warranty. Its a failure pure and simple.
I've only ever had one failure and that in may previous D3. Was happily fixed under warranty by Shukers. But then, that was some time ago before LR decided (apparently) to stop accepting warranty claims. I'm pretty sure Shukers would do the same today as they have very good customer service and believe in maintaining relationships with them.
Any good dealer would of course clean it out FOC and then re-adjust under warranty and claim the cost back from LR.

I disagree Simon ...It's an off-road vehicle and sold as such..... therefore the EPB shouldn't malfunction at the sight of a bit of dirt. I don't see it as a fair charge because it might have to be applied every time you went off-road. It does not make any rational sense.
To me it's simple ...either go for a complete re-design or stump up under the warranty reserves I always advise people never to give advice.

So if you drove into a thick gloopy pot hole, caked up your engine bay and found the engine overheated and failed... would you expect it to be covered under warranty because its an off road vehicle ?
Would you expect the dealer to clean out or replace your radiator or intercooler under warranty becuase it was full of mud and caused a failure ??
Nope.
TBH, there are plenty of us that have been off road a fair bit and never had a failure with the EPB.
The cleaning out side of things is a ruse to enable them not to cover it under warranty when it goes out of adjustment - which causes the screaming and not dirt and grit.
These I see these as two distinctly separate things.

I would expect the vehicle to perform in the general conditions portrayed in the advertising, specifications and documentation.
Would you expect the vehicle to fail every time it went through some water \ mud...or some water \ mud got on the rad \ intercooler . No
I have had EPB failure just by getting it wet when it clearly states that the vehicle is capable of wading to a specified depth.
It sucks Simon ...you know it, I know it ...they know it. I always advise people never to give advice.

Of course it sucks.
What I am saying is that why should a dealer clean the underside of your D3 free of charge... good ones will, most others don't.
And they don't fail each time they get wet, muddy or wet & muddy either Most perform as advertised (even on road tyres) and spend happy lives between scheduled servicing.
Some have failed... should not have... too may have... its a poor design... sigma whatever agreed it had... but cleaning off crud is not covered under warranty.
I imagine that most EPB's work perfectly, thus its not been re-designed.

Well when they take a poll of voters they usually choose around a thousand samples ...so if our poll is anything to go by then 52% have had issues....thats a lot of motors proportionally. I always advise people never to give advice.

Hunters did do the epb this week UNDER WARRANTY and the did claim it from LAND ROVER. The head tech is a personal friend so has no reason to tell porkies, like I said, has anyone actually seen this memo from HO about it being non warranty?.
As DG said, it's an off road car - so will get ruffed up and used in mud.
I am sure the D3 is treated better of road than any Builders Nissan Warrior Fitted with GNVP Rock Sliders, Sump Guard, Ladder, ATR Tyres, K & N Filter and Rosen DVD
