If it's not properly engaged the extra torque wouldn't help. Going, going...... Gone!

Bought car at 12 months old and EPB was staring to stay on within a few weeks, dealer sorted it with updated programme and it has been fine since. It is a beautiful car and a pleasure to drive especially with an Autologic ECU upgrade!

Until Friday I was firmly in the "no problems" camp. The PEB worked as it should when ever I pulled or pushed the "lever". Then it decided to play up.
First off all it did was flash up a warning message whilst driving along. Then the yellow brake problemlight came on, with a message about an EPB fault. This light and the message now come on a few yards after setting out, without fail.
Next was Sunday night's performance - I stopped on my drive, pulled the lever up to put the EPB on, and was greeted by what can best be described as a "metalic fart" sound, the EPB lamp flashing and eventually a message saying the EPB had gone for a holiday ( Its not too bad as my drive is pretty well flat, and I was stopped with one wheel in a small drain cover so it wasn't going to roll off anywhere.
This morning I was concerned I wouldn't get the brake off, but all was well, apart from the yellow light and the EPB not healthy message, the EPB worked when I needed it to do a hill start at a set of light, and no untoward noises.
So I phoned the dealer to get it booked in for a going over, the receptionists voice sounded like "Oh no, not another EPB problem". Booked in for a week tomorrow, with a curtosy car, so hopefully they will be able to sort out what's going on......

not totally exclusive to the D3.. just got my Sport back with some real hassles over the last month or so in terms of the EPB.. Alto fixed it this week, all seems well for now.. initially binding problem and i had this done on the last service 2 months ago.. however when i applied the EPB in the last few weeks, it sounded like some banshee going off..It was fixed this week. However I am not aware of any other sports owners having the same problem..
Cheers

Hi guys, I need to change my vote from 'no problems' to 'screamer on one occasion'. Took it Off Road for the second time yesterday around bits of Salibury Plain, did one 'watersplash' - maybe 3-4 inches of muddy water - and ten minutes later screaming loudly.
Luckily stopped before the hour long journey home, on the motorway, and no repeat this morning, but there is defintely something in there Craig

Craig, did you get any error messages? Sounds like the 'common' problem Certainly wortha trip to the dealer, just hope they don't hit you with a bill for cleaning it out. D3 HSE V8...

No error message as yet, will keep looking.
From the sound, and the fact that it stopped, I am assuming there was debris caught between the shoe and the drum, which later flicked out on it's own? Craig

My TDv6 RRS suffered terribly with the EPB binding on - to the extent that at one time I dared not engage it at traffic lights for fear that it would not release. The dealer changed parts several times and it would be OK for a few weeks. I put it down to the fact that while I'm overseas the car sits on the drive for 4-6 weeks at a time and the brake seizes on. There are no error messages on the info screen and the only way to release was to really welly the revs and then it would release suddenly and screach for the next few miles!
I never found a way to leave the car with the EPD disengaged as it would engage by it's self if the car was parked for 10 minutes or more. I took delivery of a TDv8 RRS 10 days ago and the EPB has (so far) given no problems at all. How can Carbon have a footprint if it has no feet?

I need to change my vote from "had NO trouble at all since purchasing the vehicle" to "Been a screamer on one occasion" and "Locked on on one occasion"
Tonight got the screamer the orange and red lights on the dash and the message displayed.
EPB was firmly stuck on, had to release it using the manual method
Going to see what it does tomorrow ....

First Disco had the issue of "stuck on" on one occasion, which led to (excuse me - I'm not technically minded) the casing thing breaking and locking the rear n/s whilst in motion. 30ft skid mark and much cursing by me. LR assist sorted swiftly, and another 20k on the clock without any further issue. No probs as yet with the new one
HOWEVER
I was at the Land Rover Experience place yesterday, and apparently them folks have regular problems. I flicked the switch at one point, to be met with an absolute screamer. I was told by the instructor that "we don't tend to use the park brake" They went as far as to say that on one of their D3s the EPB switch is taped up and never to be used (by them) again. 07 plate TDV6 HSE in Stornoway Grey

Cheers for that Auld Reekie. Confirms everything we suspect regardings suitablity for offroad use if LRE aren't using them.
Although mine is still working after being replaced (again) recently, I still believe this is a flawed design and should be redesigned and replaced before an accident happens. Going, going...... Gone!

I've been staying at the Belfry since Sunday, and today I was sat outside watching a nice 07 Stornoway HSE unloading its passengers. When it was driven away, I could not help but notice the sound of a stuck-on park brake squeeking its way out of the complex
Really makes me mad, that most owners don't actually know the full story, and Land Rover are probably going to profit enourmously for replacing all these faulty bits in years to come. Silver TDV6 HSE

Car was in 2 days ago for 3rd time with squealing EPB. Dealer unable to replicate fault on first 2 attempts, but last time I was told that if it happened again to bring it back and they would strip it down. Dealer has now replaced the shoes, discs and some other gubbins all under warranty (which runs out next week!). All noises from brakes now ceased.
Some other bits with niggles all getting sorted under warranty. Great service from Shields, Glasgow. Nothing is too much trouble to them. Nice to get good service without having to shout for it! Sail Fast - Live Slow...

Had mine repaired under warranty this week - a " module " was replaced - not sure what they did but it works, was told by the service reception guy that I should not have used the epb when off road! - adamantly denied there was a design problem - " they never go wrong on the RRS sir !!"

Mine wasn't that bad it just creaked and whirred a bit louder than it used to. Mentioned it to Lakeland last week when it went in for its first service and they fixed it under warranty. As a trade in what's it worth? It's worth about......
