EPB gave trouble from day one (April 2005). Binding - noise and hot wheels (wasted fuel!) - fixed by dealer (5 days). Stuck on a year later (recovery, replacement car, 7 days to fix - loom replacement). Binding again (Nov 2007) so looking forward to more trouble...
I asked LR why they fitted such a complex system which is destined to have multiple failure modes - their response was that it was due to customer demand. Well, I don't want it and would pay more to have it removed.
Spoils an otherwise excellent vehicle.

I wonder if the "demand" was to remove the slight vehicle movement that could/would occur after applying the handbrake on any of the transmission brake previous models when the footbrake was removed??? That seems to me the only change by putting the EPB on the wheels rather than the transmission...? Cheers

I remember reading at launch, that the reasons for introducing electronic pb was for space saving reasons in the centre console area, and ease of use and integration with other systems.
I too would prefer a manual park brake. The transmission brake on older Land Rovers is a simple, effective and very strong device that requires very little maintenance. Silver TDV6 HSE

I actually love the EPB. (but there again I have never had a problem) It's nifty idea and has worked faultlessly. i usually give s blip of the the trottle to release it before moving off, don't know if this is connected with lack of issues.
A standard PB would not give the ability of emergency stop like the all disc with the EPB.
Did have one fault message but was associated with all sorts of bings and boings and messages after a deep creek crossing. Brake still worked as normal even with the message. Getting there is half the fun

Same here - no problems at all, not a squeak or rattle, just the electric whib=ne when (dis-)engaging. I use it like I would a normal parking brake on an automatic. Occasionally leave it on when pulling away uphill. Habit from my older (transmission braked) LRs: I don't engage the PB while on the move. It holds the Disco on any slope, so I think it is an excellent design. Added that my wife can use it easily - on the old models she had to use both hands and there was always adjustment to be done. I spoke to a Lancashire Constabulary officer yesterday about his Disco...(V8's...his had 82k miles clocked up in 8 months)
They have had mega snags with the handbrakes...he couldn't see how it actually complied with vehicle regulations as it disengages itself if you press its in drive & you press the accelerator....& doesn't qualify as an auxiliary brake. ....have Disco3 HSE TD6 Auto...
....also S Type 2.7 Auto....

Hello all. So, we've almost all previously owned Land Rover Discovery I's and II's before finding ourselves in the high tech III, right?
I want to know if the Discovery II ever really had enough trouble with the parking brake to warrant starting a "poll" on the subject
Aren't some simple items best left simple? I actually prefer the old hand brake that locked all 4 wheels reducing slipping on steep slopes. 96 Disco I, 210,000 miles - still going strong

Well if there's a button to be made to make life simple for some... they will make it
Was told by a 'dealer' that LR have modified it and covered up all the holes that let the water and dirt in. It works perfectly now and they don't have any problems with it. It was only early 'cars' that suffered the problem and they are now all updated.
Was not my dealer by the way... but one not too far away near Worcester.

I gather from a few posts on here that some bods have difficulty in releasing the EPB once it's screamed.
I've never had this problem of not releasing until I sussed it out yesterday.
My EPB [normally intermittent] screamed three times in a row yesterday.
I found out that once it screamed and I tried to move off - it wouldn't.
What I normally do is the basic 'IT fix' - switch the engine off and restart - then there is no problem pulling away.
Mine is in dealer at the moment for servicing and EPB fix - we'll see how that goes.
Was only 5k since last screamer repair.
BTW, got a 'Y' reg Pug with 110k on clock as loan car???
Are they taking the p*ss or what? slowly re-building my gallery after the wipe out !!!!

I've done nearly 200,000 miles in 2 D2's and a D1 in last 9 years, I never had a hand brake problem, never needed to change the shoes and I can't remember ever adjusting any of them either.
These repeated D3 faults are they mechanical - ie the linkages seize up or bend or is it alway related to the electronics within the park brake drum? Silver TDV6 S with sat nav, PTI and Moosed up a bit

3 weeks ago today my 2008MY TDv8RRS arrived.............................................. OK so it's only covered 1600 miles since and a lot of those have been on the motorway and fast A roads with very little town driving, however I am pleased to report that so far the EPB hasn't uttered one squeek and hasn't bound on at all. Let's see what happens tomorrow now I've reported it as fine How can Carbon have a footprint if it has no feet?

Giverny Green RRS TDv6SE with Aspen and Ivory interior - now departed

Right! Where do I start. Further to my post 9/11 on this thread saying the world was rosy regarding the EPB (all replaced under warranty), today the world fell apart! Stopped at lights and pulled the EPB on to hear a bang, screech and then the car lurched to one side (much to the amusement of passing pedestrians! - feel like bobo the clown in the circus car!). EPB had self destructed and jammed on...........................fantastic. Dashboard was bonging away merrily and had lots of pretty flashing lights like a christmas tree. Lucky me, last day of the warranty today!
On the bright side, LRA sorted me out with a brand new FFRR as a loaner until it's fixed. Went straight to dealer and took out the extended warranty! Can't wait to get the technical report on what went wrong.............. Sail Fast - Live Slow...
