Crank shaft failure notice
For all those who have suffered the dreaded crankshaft/crank bearing failure please ask yourself one question.
When your engine failed without warning do you think this was safe?
When you lost full control of steering and breaking was anyone put into unnecessary danger??
If you agree please consider alerting the DVSA to the problem, filling out the form on the following link will allow the DVSA/VOSA to fully investigate the issue and if necessary sanction Land Rover to take appropriate action.

Reported mine to DVSA. Mine seized at 70mph in the outside lane of a motorway. Not fun.
As a matter of interest, in the US (which has far more effective consumer protection) Land Rover issued a recall of D4s with V6 petrol engines
“In the affected vehicles, the 3.0L V6 supercharged engines may have improperly torqued connecting rod bolts. As a result, the connecting rod may separate from the crankshaft and the engine may seize. If the engine seizes there is an increased risk of a crash”, says the NHTSA in its recall summary of the problem.”
Owners of these two models will be notified by Land Rover and the company’s dealers will be replacing the affected engines, free of charge."
How is this different from a self-acknowledged manufacturing fault in the TDV6 which also causes the engine to seize??

Mine failed last week but on a very short run through the village. Started as a top end tappit noise and progressed quickly to pots and pans banging together. No real safety concerns but nonetheless..!

Profile says it's a 2010, so unless it's aftermarket warranty, no.

Morning,
No but Landrover have offered 35% toward a fix given the mileage and LRSH.
That means I'm in a £11.6k hole if I go that route.. that said I'm hoping
To do better with LR and I hope these conversations contribute to that..

Because it's a defined knowledge of a specific failing e.g. they know that a batch of vehicles have been under torqued.
With the crankshaft failure in the T\SDV6 it is random so you cannot define which vehicles may be affected over a 12 year period...unless of course you recall the whole lot.21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

I appreciate this is a difficult and expensive time for those concerned but putting this on an open forum that is monitored by LR will probably not help your cause.
I know that there are people who can help with ways forward from this forum and who have already been through this and sorted the issue with LRCS. The time may well be better spent talking to and building a relationship with LRCS in an effort to find a more cost effective way forward with them.
Perhaps people who have had this issue and now got it resolved would be in a better position to raise this with the relevant departments.MY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange

Eddy,
Could you explain better what you mean by tappit noise and progressed quickly?

Sorry for taking a while to get back to you dgardel, long lunch yesterday
The symptoms were out of the blue tappit noise that I heard above the radio. In less than
3 miles that turned into an almighty clatter. All of it sounded top end, at times like a belt had
Let go and was spinning and slapping around.
A friend of a friend hooked me up with a LR tech and he told me straight away what it was..!
He asked me the VIN and confirmed it's a known problem..! That's when I began to get miffed
With the situation (not him). He even said the often fail c. 60k and at my mileage I'm right
On cue....
