breakdown recovery AA RAC ect
been with the AA for 10 years have had full membership personal roadside relay home start forward travel and parts and labor cover (£500 +£35 excess) just went to renew and £2 off £500 for the year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
just joined RAC £277 for year personal roadside rescue recovery at home start onward travel key replace battery rescue parts and labor (£750 and no excess)
= £221 saving for better cover
did give the AA a call to see if they could match ................couldn't get within £50!!!!!!
I give up with the AA parts and labour as they always seem to get out of it with the small print on whats covered. Their interpretation and mine were very different I am now with the RAC when at home and ADAC for when I travel abroad which costs me 87 Euros a year. It is well worth it for piece of mind when travelling abroad but luckily not had to use it yet. Fingers crossed

AA renewal came through for £265 for 3 members of family, national breakdown/recovery/keys but no homestart.
Last year paid £190 for same.
Told them to cancel as more expensive than last year, offered to do renewal at £195.
I had been on AA website and they have a special deal of £169 for all of the above and homestart added free for 4 members of the family.
I requested that deal to be told it was only for new members, but cutting to the point they offered me this deal for £175.
Result Can get another member on the deal (when they pass test), better deal with Homestart included and cheaper than last year.

Should have gone with the RAC
Driving in my Volvo, felt tired, so I pulled over in a safe place and decided to have a rest. Turned engine off but left radio on and fan running slowly.
Next thing I know I wake up about an hour later, wow didn't think I would doze off.
Tried to start the car but somehow I knew it wouldnt.
Called AA at 21.15 and explained the situation and was surprised when they said 22.35 because they were busy - always same excuse even though roads seemed quiet.
Received another text short while later that they will send third party recovery scheduled arrival 22.55.
I am angry but I will persist even though my nephew is 10 minutes away and carries jump leads.
I told my nephew not to bother as I will wait for the third party recovery and he will probably be here 5 minutes max and hopefully this will cost the AA a pretty penny.
The AA is now a world away from when it was it was a members organisation and they became a private entity and bought by venture capitalists.
I see their share price dropped considerably a few days ago. They seem to be having problems.

For those that can,
Here's how to get the new members deal every year, I know as it has worked for me for many years until this renewal, but that's another story. Well might try it in the dogs name next time
Year 1 buy in your name,
Year 2 cancel yours and buy in your SWMBO name
Year 3 cancel hers and back to you
Etc etc
As you or SWMBO is a new member every 2nd year you get the better deal. I know it can be a pain but worth the fortune you save over many years.

If you've got Clubcard vouchers have a look at buying RAC cover via that.

I'm with the AA and they have been great, last time I broke down the Recovery Truck was there within 15 minutes of the call.
I think its more to do with where you happen to be when you break down in relation to their nearest truck, it doesn't take many breakdowns to exhaust the agents in an area, especially at night.
Why would you have loads more than you need on shift over quiet periods, all it would do is increase costs considerably, and that's the same no matter what service it is?????
I normally phone when my renewal comes in and they will always match the new members price within minutes, and that included when I had breakdown insurance.Joined the BMWX5 45e group

I phone up the AA this year, as they just seam to increase the price every year (far worse that insurance companies)
This year I did my research on the RAC costs. (they are with 99p of each other for new customers)
Told the AA guy I was looking to reduce the costs, and that RAC could do it for £xxx
How close can you get?
He got very annoyed with me mentioning the RAC and second time
He gave me to offers two choose from.
1) 18 months for the price of 12 months (obviously at the higher price)
2) Anyway I got a £46 off, and paid £9 more than a new customer would.
Meant to be a guaranteed price for next year too (which should work out at what a new customer would pay next year) (but I can't cancel or change cover) but haven't seen this written down

Was with RAC for a long time and only used a few times..
Then out of the blue they told me my caravan was not covered as it was outside their 25' limit.
Typically they told me that when stranded on the side of the motorway with a blown head gasket on the 300tdi!
Had a very slight falling out over that on the phone.
Then coupled with the 4 hour wait for a patrol to come with a 5 gallon tank of water after I told them it was never going to go again and needed uplift, and another 2 hours for the recovery truck to arrive.
Then there was a falling out with the lorry driver about where our dogs were going to be!!
Wasn't with them for long after that.
Now with green flag under Caravan club for much better cover with more features, no length or weight limit and onward uplift if going on holiday (With pick up at end if car not fixed)
All to boot at 1/2 the price of RAC.
Have had to call them a few times and my current experience is faultless.
I know that they all will have their quirks but this seems to work for me.
