2008 Discovery 3 TDV6 HSE Manual Zermatt SilverDiscovery 3

Dear forum members,

Right now I have the same issue with my Disco3 MY08 (exactly as described by OP, it is happening usually in bad weather). My mechanic advised me to replace the entire instrument cluster with the used one (the same MY).

Apparently it turned out that the system detects different VINs and the vehicle does not start with the new one (although the instruments are working). And the mechanic was not able to overwrite the data on the cluster. The only solution he had that it would require a replacement of memory chip with VIN between the old and new cluster (however he will not undertake it and for me the solution seems pretty contrived).

Considering the above, could you please give any advice, in particular:
- is it really not feasible to override VIN data on the used cluster?
- are there perhaps any other solutions?

Thank you in advance!

I was strongly advised to not replace the instrument cluster for this reason, I am sorry this doesn't help you, have you considered sending your old cluster to one of the suggested repairers??
Good Luck

Good to know that though, thanks! I have found some car electronic specializing in land rovers in the close proximity of my city - will call him tomorrow. And still - any other advice will be appreciated, at least I will know what should I raise to him.

edit: fortunately, the old cluster is actually working - I just need to get rid of these accidental black outs.

I would ask him about replacing the instrument cluster and if he says "no" he has probably seen this before, if he says yes walk away and find someone who knows what they are talking about.
I hope this makes sense???
Where are you based?? is this why you cant send it to the place people have been talking about earlier in the post.

To be precise, I have asked him to solve it on the occasion of other fix (I had to replace turbo-charger hose). As it turned out, I have to find someone else who will be able to resolve it (and I still have a couple of days to return the used cluster I have bought - fortunately I got it online as a consumer, so I can return it). I am in Poland, but sending the cluster abroad will be the kind of last resort solution - it will take ages to have it back fixed and I hope I will be able to find someone around to cope with that. Will see.

edit: and of course now I know how to approach the other guy, thanks Smile

Did u find the problem and manage to fix it without removing the instruments cluster?
I am based in Moldova and unfortunatelly here the service guys never had any similar "experiences", so they would solve it by replacing it and it's a big no no from my part.
Thnx in advance for any advice on this issue.

I just replaced my failing cluster with a secondhand one. Only needed to backup the CCF file and write it in the replacement. 5 minute job with the BBS MSV2. Luckily the new cluster is only showing 8.000 KM more than my car, so I won't exchange IC 9.

Hey man, I have found an electronic workshop specializing in instrument cluster repairs (nothing LR-specific, just general electronics). They have charged me 30 euros and it works like a charm. Hope that helps!
