Removing Fixed Tow Bar

Hi all,

Getting usual problems in removing my LR Fixed towbar..... long story for removal.....

Battle commenced this afternoon and rain has now stopped play.

Progress so far:

- lowered spare wheel to access bolts for the side struts
- removed the side struts - no drama.
- red key goes in lock and turns fine
- green knob pulls out but doesn't turn very far - loads of WD added....
- may have to find friend with big hammer and drift for the locking pin.....
- can't get the 2 bolts back into the chassis from where the struts connected - bolts turns but don't pick up the thread in the chassis..... - any tips/tricks here please?

Many thanks

JC

Regarding the bolts not engaging, slacken off the nut on the other side of the chassis member and you can move the pin about inside to engage the threads, You can on a D3 not sure if its the same on a D4.

Hi again,

This is on a 2007 D3 HSE.

Is it ok to drive with the chassis bolts not installed?
Short distance to someone who can then back in and the rest of the tow bar detached.

Is the bracket they help secure for the weights behind the rear bumper?

Thanks

JC

Mass damper weights are not connected to tow bar fixings at all & you can drive with the side bars detached with the fixings

Hi,

Not sure I understand that fully.....

I cant get the bolts back in so I'm going to have to drive a short distance without the bolts in place.....
I assume this will be OK.....

Thanks

Hi,

More WD-40 plus some help from a friend with a copper hammer and the tow bar is now free and off the vehicle and the chassis bolts are back in.

The tow bar is now ready for redeployment on the next Discovery.....

Many thanks
