| How to Remove Rear Bumper Skin |
|
I have done a search but have been unable to find a comprehensive procedure for removal of the rear bumper plastic skin.
Anyone done this? Step by step for dummies with photos would be best.
thanks. Getting there is half the fun

With due apologies to Dunc in advance (caverD3, you did mention the Dummies series...)
caverD3, I suppose that this is not the method of removal you were looking for; maybe a PDF from GTR?

Me too for the instructions. Managed to keep the skin on, but it's not quite where it should be and I need to take it off and refit it. Don't Panic! Everything will be fine.... inflation is only 2.5% 3.0% 3.3% and the flying pigs are carbon neutral

Due to an unfortunate meeting between my Disco and a post, I could do with rear bumper removal instructions if anyone would be kind enough to PM me?
Cheers,
Paul.

Right Chaps.
I am no munchnic, but following my sons attempts at moving my D3 on the drive I found myself in the situation where I too had to fit a new bumper .
I removed it as follows:
1. Underneath there are 4 screws holding it onto 2 plastic plates, one plate on each side of the towbar (if fitted!) remove them.
2. Remove the mud flaps (3 screws each side) and then there are 2 more screws behind them to remove I put the vehicle suspension into off road mode and the 2 screws between the wheel and the mudflap were easier to get at with a 90 degree ratchet screwdriver .
3. I then totally removed the wheel arches, as I looked and thought this would make it easier. Remove the centre pins from the 2 part fixings underneath the wheel arches (from memory there are 3 each side) and then pry out the outer parts, I then pulled the wheel arches off. They popped off quite easily but did involve a degree of fiddling as they are two part poppers, one on the trim and one in the car, they did need to be separated after as some stayed on the trim and only 2 or 3 detached as designed.
4. Open the tailgate and you will see there are four more 2 part fixings, they are really fiddly to remove unless you are from a part of the country where in-breeding has evolved you so you have extra knuckles and wrists as they are between the hinge and the vehicle body .
5. Remove the lights and there are 2 bolts below the lights, take them out and then starting by pulling the bumper at the wheel arch. Pull gently out of the plastic grip and then the same again at the corner below the tail lights as there is another grip thingy there. I initially removed the “thingy” underneath the tail light, then realised I didn’t need to!
That’s pretty much it, in all about 3 hours start o finish, but that’s because I didn’t know where to look, you will all, of course, do it much quicker!

Oh yes on top of the bumper is a slatted footplate, this does not to be removed, until after you have got the bumper off, don't try beforehand. As mine had partially popped off in the impact I thought it needed to but it doesn't.
Once you have removed the bumper you will have to remove it as there are 3 torx screws that hold the reversing sensor mounting gubbins underneath the foorplate, but it is quite easy to remove, there are 7 or 8 snap in lugs on the end closest to the car, I poured boiling water on them to make them more pliable.
No doubt TFC or Chris Tyler will say I am a butcher and there is a better way, but it worked for me with no damage. Dissy 3 HSE TDV6, with all the toys, but no DVD player like the last one, kids well off, JE Chip
