Getting Land Rover to Foot the Bill |
|
As I have mentioned elsewhere the auto gearbox on my 2008 Disco 3 has failed due to the oil not having been changed.
Land Rover in their service schedule state this should be done at 150,000 miles or 10 years.
Mine has done 115,000 miles at 8 1/2 years.
If the service schedule had stated it should have been done earlier I would have (experts on here recommend every 30,000 miles).
It is worth writing to them and asking them to foot the bill and to make a claim through the online small claims court if they refuse to do so? 2008 D3 HSE Stornoway Grey with Ebony Leather, towing a Coachman VIP 575

I had thought that the general consensus was around 60,000 miles for a fluid change. Please could someone who knows clarify this?

Between 50-75k miles. Less if you do frequent towing, high speed driving or off roading... My D3 Build Thread

Thanks Mikey, I shall run with around 60,000 miles. Looks like I've got around 15 months to find someone that'll carry it out in Cornwall

An interesting thought. I did look on their website for a contact number, but they want you to fill out an online enquiry form with all sorts on vehicle info. I will do that later and I'll be interested to see if they just refer me back to LR as they'd be in an interesting position if they contradict the advice of their customer (Land Rover)! If I were LR, I wouldn't be too happy about it...
It's worth the time to find out though

Thanks folks.
I'll start by writing a letter to Land Rover. Should I send it the customer service or to HQ direct for the attention of their legal department? 2008 D3 HSE Stornoway Grey with Ebony Leather, towing a Coachman VIP 575

Look at it this way
Your 8 year old motor is 5 years out of warranty and even if you believe, like some, that in reality that warranty means 6 years because of some EU rule....then you are still two years over that.
The service schedule is just that ...a schedule ...its not guaranteeing that the gearbox will last that time ...they are not guaranteeing that it will last any time at all ...but their warranty means that if it blows within the 3 years they will, within their conditions, be liable.
Even if all that is a crock ....then when you found there was a problem did you consult LR or a dealership? ...or did you fill it with Dr Tranny and hope for a resolution?
Sorry if this reads harsh ...but some reality check may be required before you start to chase your tail down a route filled with stress and expectation that IMO is not going to deliver. I would focus on dealing with the issue from practical perspective tbh. 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

I saw on the LR schedule 10 years or 150K for gearbox oil change.
You have only got a leg to stand on if it has full land rover service history.
Quite honesty LR will just if you go saying things like "On an internet forum they recommend changes every 30K"
What ZF say is worth quoting though.
