Robbie's D4 Fails MoT...Wait what???
My D4 revises for the MoT most of the year so a bit of a surprise.
Rear brakes below 1.5mm limit apparently.
But I check my brakes... or have I made an error?
So back home during lunch, lifted the rear and prised out the old pads and bunged in a set of the latest TRW pads:

Errr, just what is wrong with the old ones:

Top one is the thinnest and hunted for the bit of the pad with the most wear:

So reason for failure turns out to be a made-up measurement of pad thickness.
Just back from the MoT station after handing them a set of micrometers and the collection of pads. The look on his face was priceless but he then tried to justify the decision on the basis that they would wear out at some point and it is better to fail the MoT if the pads don't look like they would be in limits for the coming year!
Got to go back against in 10 minutes to sort out a new certificate, but still annoyed!Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

Good for you
Should never have happened though. It could have been an advisory maybe, but never a fail.

I'd still make a complaint. Ok, so you got yours free, but based on a sample of 1, they're making up stuff as an excuse to fail and presumably getting 99% of other people to have remedial work done by them.
Increasingly I use places that only do MOTs and not garages so I don't get spurious fails.

Oh definitely a formal complaint as you are 100% in the right.
But be prepared for a reply that you could get from them. How do we know that was the pad we failed?
