In my staff representative role, I came across "Personnel " staff who were in tears over the shift in how they were expected to deal with staff.

Is that all companies, or just some? What about the public sector, are you including that in “companies”?

There will always be exceptions to any generalisation (and I'll name Timpson and Richer Sounds as two) but it's probably safe to say that it applies to any company large enough to have an HR department in the first place. As far as the public sector is concerned I think we only need look at the passive-aggressive notes left on workers desks by the Minister of State for Brexit Opportunities and Government Efficiency to answer that.

I'd include the public sector in that, yes. I've been in local government when "resource rationalisation" was instigated. We 'resources' called it redundancies, of course.

I’m not saying that they don’t exist but I don’t know any employer without an internal HR dept. who doesn’t outsource HR advice to an external HR professional or to employment solicitors, as much for their own protection as for that of their employees.

Agreed. Stuff that is a national interest should be a national asset. The lie about "choice in the market" has been nicely shown up in the recent debacle with failing power companies. I don't see how adding layers of middle men that just take a cut is a better idea than using all of the money for the service itself.

I've worked for multi-national Defence Industry companies for the last 30 odd years so completely the opposite end of the market but does the local corner shop with 2 or 3 part time staff have an outsourced HR team?

To change the subject entirely, why does the most recent reply not give the option to quote?

Particularly when the middle man is a foreign country using the profits from the UK industries to subsidise their own nationalised industries.

Renationalising was debated in the build up to the 2019 GE.

I can put a good case for and against. But as a believer in the benefits of a strong economy and a cynical opinion of all the political parties and the electoral system, I would have to, albeit with some reluctance, side against.

This short article in The Week gives a good summary of both cases:

Prevents unnecessary repetition of what is next to your input and can be easily referenced. Does fail badly on a busy thread in that your response may end up several posts away.

Prince-of-Wales Bridge being closed yesterday after a lorry fire. A two-and-a-half hour journey became six.

Even with the Severn Bridge (choked by roadworks) there is no effective redundancy in what is a pretty important piece of infrastructure.

Many people have said it was complicated by Google Maps being seemingly unaware of the closure, continuing to route people as if it was open.

Lots of cars just parked on the hard-shoulder, apparently waiting for the bridge to re-open. Rolling Eyes

Opening the drivers' door and staring along the queue makes as much difference as tapping the receiver hook on an old phone does when a call drops-out Rolling Eyes

A company advertising on line a litre of Stihl 2 stroke oil at £12 odd, but when you buy it instore, the price jumps to £34. Likewise with Stihl resin spray, £12 on line, £20 plus instore.

I went to the store and faced with the price hike, said I wouldn’t buy at that adding I’d just go on the phone and order online.

The sales person said I was paying for his humorous banter whereas online I wasn’t. I told him I could do without the banter, anyway, upon walking away, he gave the items to me at online prices. Rolling Eyes

You have done well there. Stihl do not normally do discounts on anything. The upside is that you can usually get spares for any of their machines.

Bono doesn't like the kit of his they lost: Stihl hasn't found what he's looking for.

Four Tops.

He should have given them the silent treatment. Stihl waters run deep.
