When did lorry drivers become the "enforcers" of changes in the number of lanes, driving alongside each other in lanes two and three when they are merging into lane one only? I've seen this twice this week and whilst merge-in-turn is abused (you know who you are, BMW drivers) it is what is suggested in the Highway Code and can work quite well.

Absolute rip-off merchants. Seems impossible to buy a single print, or group of prints (e.g. 6 of one size) without having to buy multiple packs with expensive (and unwanted) frames.

My daughter travelled down from near J28 M1 to go to my Uncles funeral in West Midlands, as I had tested positive for Covid yet again and couldnt go. On her return last night she left my brothers house at around 8pm to avoid traffic etc as shes not the most confident of motorway drivers.
In their infinite wisdom the highways agency had planned in motorway closures at the M6/M6 toll intersection area, meaning her quickest, most efficient route back home was blocked, and i really didnt want her driving on her own through the centre of Birmingham at that time of night.
So i advised her to go M6/M69/M1 route as the simplest way which only adds about 15 mins onto the drive time.
No problems so far really......
then the M1 is closed at J24/J24A with no diversion signs once directed off the motorway, just loads more cones closing various roads. By this time she was tired, emotional and crying her eyes out down the phone at me as her car and phone sat navs werent picking the road works and kept trying to put her back on the closed motorway.
By this time its gone 1030pm, so i jump in my car to go down the motorway to meet her, only to find the junction at 24A was also coned off coming southbound, so i had to drive all the way down to Ashby-de-la-Zouch to the next turnaround point !!
Eventually get back to where she was parked up next to Hilton Hotel, and tell her to follow me the back roads to get back on the M1 at J25... only to find this was also coned off so still no access back to the motorway, even though J25 wasnt showing as being closed!! Eventually managed to get back on at J26 and get back home at midnight !!!
WHO THE PLANS ALL THESE ROAD CLOSURES AT THE SAME TIMES, EFFECTIVELY BLOCKING ALL MAJOR ROUTES AND DOESNT PUT DIVERSIONS IN PLACE !!!!
and now im back at work very tired and very grumpy (as if you cant tell )2011 D4 XS 305 MY12 - gone but not forgotten

^^ I think it's people who don't drive!
The A11 near us is being repaired, the powers that be have decided to close a number of junctions on the 7 mile stretch until 2023! The traffic in the small towns surrounding is now chaos. Richard

It’s often similar on the M80, they don’t tell you it’s closed ahead until you have passed the motorway split where you could go the opposite way then you go through Glasgow, great way of keeping the traffic out of the cityJoined the BMWX5 45e group

Merge in turn works well if used sensibly. Laminar flow through roadworks etc is the best that can be achieved. Drivers forcing the way in at last moment causing stop start flow slows traffic flow for everyone
Once had a driver go right up to the end of the cone section and then force his near side doors against the offside corner of the Defender bumper.
His comment was where did I expect him to go, into the cones?
My comment, what do you think is the braking distance of a Defender is with a 3.5tonne trailer going downhill is?

MOT tester.......
I take it as a personal challenge to get my personal cars through an MOT without any advisories. Old cars I've bought I've remedied advisories ahead of the next MOT.
My 'modern classic' 1994 Merc E320 convertible had a couple of items from previous MOT prior to me buying it that I had changed at the indy specialist I use and they gave it a clean bill of health a few weeks ahead of the impending MOT (they use a 3rd party MOT place but also aim to have a car prepped to pass 'clean', obviously cannot guarantee that on the day though).
Unfortunately due to their workload and my own work schedule I couldn't get it booked in with them so my MOT lapsed and I had to bite the bullet and take it to a local MOT garage near to me.
Car pretty much sailed through except one advisory for "worn nearside tyre close to legal limit on outside edge" or suchlike. Now this was an advisory the year before and my intention is to change the front pair anyway (because I think the age-cracking on side walls is not great and they don't have much life left in them on tread either) but sourcing the OE Pirelli P6000's were on back-order so I put the 'new looking' spare on instead which had a lot more tread on it and even wear AFAIK.
I challenged the advisory as I was paying and they called the tester back in and he said "well you have to put something down don't you" FFS. I asked if he'd put that in writing if I decided to report it/them. He did look a bit sheep'ish over it but that doesn't help me.
I know they sometimes 'play the game' and don't want test officials breathing down their necks and maybe we, the public, benefit from this in a roundabout way on an old banger now and then but I am still a little miffed by it.....

VED Refund... the VED on my Volvo (sold last month) is £165 per year, which I pay in full annually and had 3.5 months remaining before it was due again.
Now I know the 0.5 is irrelevant however my maths shows that £165 divided by 12 = £13.75.... now there are three full months remaining so that would equal refund of £41.25... and the cheque I got back from DVLA... £38.75 WTF! I know it's not much but they've already had an extra months tax off me this is taking the I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van... I'm not stupid!

^^^ I'm in this situation yet again.
Having to send reminders and then Final reminders followed by an invoice with late payment fees and interest gets to be a PITA. They seem to view it as a game.
This time I've simply done half of the work (it's all bespoke and unique) and told them "no pay, no play" - I can afford the hit - however the people who owe me have a time constrained contract with a big car manufacturer. Their call ... I see no ships........
