Shall we add BP to the list? Whistle
I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Have Tesco not stated that their fuel is subsidising cheap prices in the store, so they're going to keep them higher?

The theory and it’s a much argued one, is that if wages are increased due to pressure from inflation and labour shortages rather than an increase in productivity, then the consumer price of the goods/services will increase to protect the employers margins, thus further fuelling inflation.

Most recently this has been illustrated with the rise in wages for delivery drivers. With a nationwide shortage of drivers, firms artificially increased wages to attract them, many smaller firms simply couldn’t compete and went into liquidation.

Initially the increased transport costs may have been absorbed by the supply chain but it was only a question time before the consumer paid the additional cost.

With the current backdrop of labour shortages, sky high energy prices, the later being responsible for perhaps 70% of the increase in the Consumer Price Index, higher pay will almost certainly create more inflation.

How the government tackles the problem of energy price inflation is paramount.

Whatever happens, the poorest in our society will suffer the most.

Courier costs to smaller companies have a base cost, fuel surcharge, dimensional charge, supply chain disruption charge, out of area charge, brexit charges have been renamed into additional charges.

Different courier companies have different names for the same charge.

Base charges and fuel surcharge have definitely gone up so it will not be long before customers see these costs either as increased price or increased courier costs.

I wonder how many outlets haven’t increased their prices accordingly?

For years there's been a race to the bottom and eventual disaster in transport due to costs.

Many follow the Stobbart plan of undercutting the competition and forcing them to go out of business, it didn't work for them in the long term, and wont for most others, but the damage gets done.

Most intelligent people will realise it is not commercially viable to guarantee anywhere within the UK mainland next day delivery for a pallet for £20, or a parcel for £5, but that's what a lot of companies are chasing. And if you do it 100% legally, it will never pay, even with full capacity loaded vehicles.

I was given a bit of advice when I started out, 'If you want to make a small fortune out of transport, start with a large one' and by and large unless you specialise or have very good and understanding customers, that remains true.

Before the recent hikes, the Tesco superstore in Falkirk had prices a good few ps more expenisve than my own stations near Glasgow. The Tesco in Falkirk must be one of the closest fuelling stations to main refinery in Grangemouth. So I guess locals are paying a bit extra to get the freshest fuel.

To be fair to BP, I use their bunker card, this week is £1.76.6, and generally it's been 10p a litre cheaper than the forecourt pump price.

The operators of BP sites are not BP themselves, so it's the forecourt operators who are taking the urine.

If BP did drop their wholesale price, would the operators pass it on, I don't think so.

Until a usually small independent leads the way, may just see how much they can get away with.

The trouble is people want things to be as cheap as possible and they expect either overnight delivery and/or 'FREE' carriage

There is no such thing as free carriage as the driver etc needs paying! So carriage is either built into the price or charged seperately .

If a company wants to save on packaging just look how 'substantial' Amazon boxes are. Good quality double or triple wall boxes cost money.

Free carriage often means the use of companies such as Hermes or Yodel who use 'sub contractors'/independent operators using private cars (with/without correct business insurance) who are paid between 50p- £1per parcel to deliver.

UPS/FEDEX/DPD/DHL/Parcelforceal tend to charge more than the likes of Hermes but the quality of service is in general terms better.

So is it companies trying to make more money or customs demanding cheap/free carriage which is the driving force in the race to the bottom.

If people do not like carriage costs they can always go to the supplier and collect.

Being told it’s Valentines Day today by the Eldest. That really threw me for a moment. Confused

Well apparently it is in China, the “Quxi” festival. His GF happened to mention it to him last week, I wonder why? Rolling Eyes

LR stealers! My car has been served by nothing but the official LR dealers in Oslo before I bought it. (That's changed now). Last night when replacing the EPB shoes, an extra return spring fell out of the RH brake drum Shocked
Turns out, they replaced the RH wheel bearing and brake shield last year sometime. In that process they also replaced the EPB shoes on ONE side. The other side disintegrated a couple of weeks ago, causing merry hell with my EPB module, which now is at the very top of my to-do list.
I used to believe that they had a bit of pride in their profession, but I guess not, only pride in having the highest hourly rates. So thank you, Insignia, big round of applause Censored

Barclays Bank for loosing an ISA account and not being able to confirm it existed or the money was safe despite talking not only their Customer Services, but their Fraud Department, who commented “it’s probably okay” and admitted, “they wouldn’t be too happy.”They then wanted me to go to a generic lost account web site and fill it in and wait weeks.

I told them I was a bit put out & I had a propensity to find the email addresses of their Board of Directors, which I did & I email bombed them. It had the desired response. The Executive confirmed all was well, the money intact and it was an employee mistake putting the account into dormancy and the taped conversations between the relevant departments and myself are going to be reviewed and a resolution offered.

What is worrying is I tend to forget about these accounts, I only discovered this when I went to move the cash to a better interest account. Before, it really wasn’t worth the hassle as all accounts were paying basically nothing. Be warned, this wasn’t a small account!

I think the one thing that LR can be very proud of is the consistency of their dealerships. They are all absolutely terrible the entire world over. Take a bow, JLR. Bow down
