EE broadband fair usage provision |
|
Putting aside that what they advertise as ‘unlimited’ isn’t, EE treats users of their rural broadband product (essentially 4G through a router) differently to their landline broadband users. Those on the former, who don’t have a usable landline option have a FUP of 600Gb per month, whilst for the latter it is 1000Gb.
Also, they provide no way of monitoring your usage - when I was on a limited tariff, the EE app showed your usage. Now with the unlimited tariff, the app displays an ‘infinity’ symbol and says “sit back and relax, you’ve got unlimited data” when you press the usage option.
Does EE not realise it is 2022, a world where 4K streaming services exist, where x-box downloads go into the 100s of Gb, where customers rely on broadband for security devices (E.g. Ring cameras), etc.

EE = BT.
We have both but as separate contracts. BT to the house on a FTTC thingy, EE to my mobile as an unlimited thingy.
Sadly, the mobile thingy is never likely to drag enough 1s and 0s to trouble the billing system. Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

The annoying thing is that the properties 300m either side have FTTP, but the final leg to ours and the immediate neighbours requires running fibre optic cable through an underground conduit, which they are not prepared to do at present.
I can’t even get access to the Universal Service Obligation funding for this, because the EE GSM/LTE service means I have access to a >10Mbps service ….. although I might revisit that idea, on the basis that EE’s throttling cuts download speeds to well below that.
First world problems though - and one of the very few downsides of a bucolic home. An ex-Disco3 / FFRR owner ......

Last month they tried uplifting my renewal premium from £19 per month to £33 per month for exactly the same coverage… spent half an hour on the phone to them negotiating the continuation for the original price to which they agreed… all new paperwork through happy days…
Three weeks later get a Dear John letter saying all their costs have gone up 66% and therefore next months direct debit will be £31 instead of £19! Wtf!
They were somewhat surprised when I cancelled my policy after 30 years of our relationship…..

I like the second link, the shortage of skilled engineers coming here, but surely if the home grown engineers here were skilled, then it might not be so much of a problem.
Recent work around my immediate area would suggest they are similar to LR dealerships, cause more issues than they solve and spend more time doing jacks**t than working.
Anytime any one goes into the box at the end of our road, we get problems.

Tell me about it. Last year Openreach were working laying in fibre. One of the operatives was a young women who in conversation said that three months before she had been made redundant. She had been a trolley dolly with an airline. We have also had the scenario where there has been an engineer with a group of trainees around a green box undergoing instruction. Maybe this lack of trained personnel is one of the reasons why after all this time no one has approached us to instal fibre. The fibre is about 25 yards from the house. Frustrating in the extreme. Once you have defeated the idiots any job is half done. Pity there are so many idiots to defeat.

The U.K. has an ageing population and a very tight labour market with an unemployment rate below 4%.
If only the U.K. was in some sort of club, with our nearest geographical neighbours with shared standards, principles and regulations which allowed workers to migrate from countries where jobs are scarce to others where jobs are many, and where labour is in short supply.
As Clive Selley, chief executive of BT’s Openreach, the division leading the rollout of fibre optic networks, said countries such as Portugal and Spain have plenty of people with the necessary skills to accelerate the delivery of superfast broadband.
