HSE purchase questions... |
|
Hello there.
New member. Looking at another Discovery presently, I have found a nice HSE TDV6, '07 sub 90k miles. It currently throws up an intermittent "transmission fault" error code, but starts normally when error doesn't show.
Shows "system pressure" on diagnostic and "lost communication with instrument cluster" as well as a parking sensor error. These faults clear when you reset them. The vehicle has been standing for a few months and on startup and acceleration under load, black smoke was evident. The transmission fault and system pressure errors a a bit of a concern, but contemplating taking a gamble as the car is otherwise mint. Anyone else have any advice on these error codes?
Any feedback would be appreciated.
Many thanks.

Well a gearbox recon is £2500 ?
An 07 will need an oil pump and camber change £500 ish
Is the pressure suspension related ?
So it had better be cheap

Cambelt is done. History is thorough and all services done with dealers. Any information on the specific issues with reference to transmission failure and system pressure?

Could be worth replacing the filter in the gearbox sump and putting fresh fluid in.
Is the vehicle cheap? As i would factor in a gearbox replacement just in case.

Many thanks for your feedback. The confusing thing is that the fault is intermittent.

Gorilla welcome along. Mine used to throw an intermittent “transmission fault” up. Turned out to be knackered bushes and mechatronic due to incorrect oil. Some Stetson and spurs wearing mechanic tried to mask torque converter wear by changing the gearbox oil. Problem was he used the wrong oil ! Long story short I had to replace the box and tc. As Pete has said, factor around £2.5k for refurb. Can’t recommend Bristol transmissions enough. Absolutely fantastic people to deal with. Good luck with it. has Jarrod

Thank you. Any thoughts on the black smoke on pulling off?

Black smoke on acceleration is usually an air leak somewhere between turbo and throttle body. Sometimes the intercooler but more usually the 3" diameter rubber hose which runs between the intercooler (bottom front left in engine bay) to throttle body (Top front left). Look for a split in this rubber hose. Silicon replacement about £60.
