That explains why we can't build our own power stations without the French and Chinese. The value is in the knowledge and skills not production. Either way, we don't have it.
How very dismissive.
We have quite an active supply chain role in the nuclear industry, and not just in pouring concrete.
We have a leading producer of defence nuclear power plants, which may make more sense for distributed nuclear powered generation than the behemoths of France and China.
As it stands, the nuclear power kit manufactured by Rolls Royce only has about £1bn of sales a year, but plenty of knowledge and skills are present there.
EDF doesn't have a solely French nuclear supply chain, even in France.
In fact, EDF reactors in France use nuclear fuel that has been manufactured in the UK.Black 05 TDV6 HSE Auto

So why are we bending over for the French and Chinese to build a nuclear station, to sell us overpriced energy? My D3 Build Thread
LFW, you asked for an example of a non-tariff barrier. This is one: the Canadians will allow 18,000 additional tonnes of European cheese to be imported into Canada tariff-free provided that it's consumed by Canadian dairy producers and processors (i.e., not made available for retail sale). The Europeans know this is practically worthless; Canadian dairy producers and processors won't consume that quantity, and the real market is in retail sales. (Now, I've promised Martin I'll be nice, so I hope you will be, too. )

If anybody is interested this is the full speech given by Mark Carney, Governor of the Bank of England with also considerations on Brexit (parts are mentioned in a few of newspapers)
So why are we bending over for the French and Chinese to build a nuclear station, to sell us overpriced energy?
OK cast your mind back to the Dynamic duo days...they could no wrong.....?
the actual facts as to why they wanted not just foreign investment but extended this to bringing in "their" technology.......in my humble there was something in for them.
What possible other reason could there be ?BREXIT - done properly.

What technology even comes close to the offered rate for nuclear that produces low carbon base-load electricity generation, especially without massive incremental transmission infrastructure costs?Black 05 TDV6 HSE Auto

Maybe more clarity on monday for the status of citizens abroad
Hopefully we will know better what is the UK position on that and where the differences are
Quote:
UK Prime Minister Theresa May is to address EU leaders on her plans for the issue of expats' rights after Brexit.
Mrs May will head to Brussels for her first European summit since she lost her Commons majority in the general election.
It comes the day after measures to enable Brexit dominated the Queen's Speech and with the Conservatives still trying to secure the Commons support needed to pass their programme.
Brexit negotiations began on Monday.
The UK is due to leave the EU by the end of March 2019.
Both sides say they want to come to an arrangement to secure the status of about 3.2 million EU nationals living in the UK, and 900,000 Britons overseas, but nothing has been decided so far.
UK opposition parties have urged the government to make a unilateral guarantee to the EU migrants - but ministers have insisted a reciprocal deal is needed to ensure British expats are protected.
Downing Street did not reveal details of Mrs May's proposals, but the PM has previously called for the issue to be settled as quickly as possible.
Full details of her plans are expected to be published on Monday.
Mrs May will not be present when the leaders of the remaining 27 EU states hold a brief discussion about Brexit after her presentation. They are expected to consider the relocation of the two EU agencies governing medicine and banking which are currently based in London.
It was lauded as "in the countries best interest (even though it wouldn't produce power at base cost)...countries interest my hairy ar$e.

I haven't any issue with nuclear power....
It's where it's coming from that gets my goat
Was the whole deal done by competitive tendering.....not just "cost" but the technologies being entered in to....the U.K. Has a nuclear industry beyond disposing with waste.
Why China...?
Does thier technology surpass the UK's ?
Have they got a history of installing plants ?
As others on here have said the UK has a wealth of knowledge.....why not UK technology & plant.
Not Sorry for being cynical - we should support our technologies & industries - if we don't who will ?BREXIT - done properly.
