After using the temporary spare wheel, when I had a puncture, I now find that I am unable to lower the lifting lug far enough to get the spare back on to it. While I was getting the puncture repaired I had retracted the lifting lug.
All I seem to able to do is raise it or lower it by approximately 4 inches before it tightens. Putting tension on the lifting lug while I do this does not make any difference.
Any suggestions?

Thanks, it would seem that others have had difficulty after retrieving the cable without a load out it. The owner's handbook does say that it should be rewound if the spare is not to be refitted. So I do not believe I have done anything wrong.
I will take DG's advise and get the dealer to sort it.

Mine is a right pain, I find it needs lots of tension on it if no wheel.....hard to do while winding it up or down. Mine reguarly jams, you just unwind, retension and try again....it can take ages........ really ought to change this.........

Yes mxgeldar7 it does look like a design fault.
I will be getting my one replaced under warranty this week.
The problem seems to lie with retrieving the cable without a load on it. Which is something you have to do if you are leaving a wheel in to get a puncure repaired, as you cannot drive around with the cable hanging down.
Perhaps this is something that people should check prior to their warranty running out i.e. lower and remove spare, retrieve cable, lower cable fit spare and raise again.

I guess the simple answer could be: hang the punctured wheel/tyre back on the wire, and transport it this way. Not what most of us would do, but there again, we dont have the minds of LR designers, do we
