Just picked up my first Discovery (III) and need guidance on tyre mixing – or how to avoid this.
It has 19” HSE wheels with Grabber AT’s on all 5 wheels but . . . . the spare is barely legal so needs changing, and the rear two are worn more than the front.
It is a second car that will do 5k to 10k miles a year all of this dual carriageway driving with no intention to go on the slippery stuff so I want to run Continental summer tyres all year but how do I change them over:-
A) Keep driving until the rears need changing then use a front AT as a permanent spare with Continentals as road tyres.
B) Sell the good AT’s and have a set of five Continentals (but I doubt I will remember to rotate them enough).
C) Buy 4 continentals and try and do a swap for a pair of AT’s for a spare continental that won’t get used.
D) Buy 3 more 19” HSE wheels so that I have 4 summer & 4 winter tyres.
Plan B is to think about what I would do if I need to replace a tyre due to a puncture
