It is odd. For sure, the vast majority do not have rear lights illuminated when in drl only mode (light switch in off pos or auto pos and detected as light). But some clearly do, previously only thought to be late 2016 Landmarks but now seems some 2014 models are like that as well. Very odd.

Our 2014 model has both front and rears on, don't like it Big Cry

I read somewhere on the forum that HSE & HSE Lux had both on as standard Rolling Eyes

I feel a poll coming on Whistle

That is strange. Had read your post then yesterday happened to be following a very nice XXV with a private plate and no lights showing at the rear except stop lights. When it pulled over to turn I could see the signatures on in the front. All this variation seems accidental rather than intentional.

Thanks Jonno, that really does seem to point to it being a fault rather than a design intent! I would assume that most of the XXVs were built around the same time and they all had the same spec, so why would some have the rear lights on and some not?
Does anyone know what module controls the DRLs, I'd assumed it was the BCM, so could it possibly be a software version difference?

Just a totally random thought, but do the ones that have the rear lights on as well as the front ones have tow electrics fitted? Mine does and the rear lights come on!

Just as an update in this, I've logged a call with LRCRC and asked them to find out from the technical team what the actual design intent is meant to be. I've been promised a reply, but I'll not hold my breath Whistle

Sorry but that's not accurate.

If switch is in position 0 (off) led drls are bright and dim on indicating side when indicating.

If switch is in position 1 (sidelights) or 2 (headlights) led drls are dim, no change when indicating (headlights will be on in pos 2).

If switch is in position 3 (auto) then functionality is same as pos 0 when light and pos 2 when dark

Rear lights only on if switch in pos 1 or 2 and 3 if detected as dark.

Some MY 2016 landmarks seem to have the rear lights on whatever the switch position, see other threads.

My rears don't come on, they did when the DRL's were on and trailer attached, solved it, turned the DRL's off.

I'll take my chances with the insurance police Whistle

That's interesting. I've got 13pin on mine, I wonder if that makes a difference?

I also found the UK Gov paper on DRLs where it states that all other lights, including rears, should be off when DRLs are active!

March 2014 (facelift) HSE with 13 pin tow electrics and lighting autosense: front DRLs only.

(But AIUI Canadian and Scandinavian DRLs require front AND rear on and this can be specified if you have an IID or similar).

I had a 2014+ HSE Lux coming towards me today with its DRLs on, and when it passed I checked in my rear view mirror it's rear lights were on as well, so yes it would appear that they are all differently set up
