Advice Please

Good Morning folks,

I am now back in Europe and going to buy a Discovery 3. I have been looking at all the posts on here and see that there are a lot of mods that can be carried out on these vehicles, I’m not worried about fuel consumption or the atheistic look to much but just to make it as reliable and comfortable as possible.

Now I’m not a mechanical guy so rely on advice from enthusiasts and specialists like you guys here, and will need a good mechanic too !! (if you want to know about security or mountain sports as that’s what I do)

I will buy the vehicle in UK and have £10K to spend on a vehicle, what are your recommendations ? – buy something at that price or look for Something cheaper and spend £ on changing, all fluids and up grading etc.....

I understand second hand vehicles will always have issues (as do new)

Thanks in advance
Dave

Bid you a Welcome.
My point of view is just that as I started with a brand new D3...I have been in the csrefull & considerate use + care & upkeep cycle.

At £10k, you've got to decide the choice is a vehicle in reasonable nick & miles with its mandatory tasks done.....or one that's got more toys (which on an ageing vehicle are debatable) less mileage & you are going to tackle the important things to get & keep you on the road.
£10k should get you a good later model D3.

But the checknif there done items are important as one not done could cost you dear.

Others will be on to give you a list of things to check for

Is it all worth it ?.....heck YES.
 BREXIT - done properly.
Right now ...We need Government - not Politics
Save the Dipstick Flagbearer-keep it simple, less likely to fail campaign-agenda items:Starting Handles, Acetylene Lamps.
Founder: Dipsticks-R-Us Inc
D3 HSE-perfectly formed, passenger friendly...has real DIPSTICK
Jag XK-but sadly no DIPSTICK...HUGE design fault
FL2 has DIPSTICK..."real comfort in rear seats"
VW Golf wondermobile (?)..has real DIPSTICK
Morris Minor..original DIPSTICK technology..and a real KEY.

For £10k buy privately, do loads of research and look for one that has been loved.

Getting one of the site would be a good start - greater chance its been loved if sold by an established member.

I'm no mechanic either, but I do know the preventative maintenance is more important than just the standard service record.

Not cheap to run in terms of fuel and maintenance, but they are a big incredibly capable car - find a decent independent is your best bet for all servicing etc.

Welcome and good luck Thumbs Up

My plan is to get a vehicle off here if possible, I've a bit of time as Im away working in the middle east until end of November when I will be in Norway for a month and then Europe for the ski season. If I can I will buy when the right one comes up and leave it with an "expert" mechanic to carry out all the mods/ good bits so its ready for Novmenber - In a perfect word that is Laughing
