It's gone - and who cares |
|
Mine got stolen in the early hours of Friday morning.
The neighbour's cctv shows t guys creeping onto my driveway at 03:30 in the morning with something that looked like a small tablet under their arm, get in it and drive off.
Saw it missing on Friday morning once I opened the door to go to work.
My first call was to the Police, who started by telling me they would send someone over. By the time they finished taking the details I was informed that they wouldn't be attending and would get someone to call me instead.
Over 36 hours later i got a call back from them to give me a crime reference number. 8 hours later still I got a call to ask for my neighbour's cctv with the caveat that if a face can't be clearly seen they will be closing the case. The PC that called said he'd send me a blank email that I would be able to respond to and mail the footage. On emailing him back I received 2 failure notifications in return explaining the Met sever would not accept video files. I emailed the PC back explaining this - not heard from him since... now some 24 hours later.
I know the car is probably on a container heading someplace but I do wonder.... that if something more proactive was done the culprits could still be caught to stop the next victim feeling as robbed as we have been over the last few days!!!
I'm looking for a 2007 onwards mini Cooper S JCW edition for not much while the insurance company look for reasons not to pay me if any of you should know of one going.... <£6k if possible.

PS.
I've also considered replacements for once the dust has settled.
Nothing but a D4 is a D4 and for that reason it'll be another D4 - newer and flasher than the last which looked lovely on diamond cut landmark alloys.
I'm looking into retracting security bollards and next weekend will see my cctv go in.
I'm not going to let them beat me!!!!

Nope - proactive as in simply making contact to find out details of the crime you're reporting to the people you trust to do something about it..... you know - I think it used to be called POLICE WORK!!!

Nothing really, and it wouldn't even be picked up when seen by the 6 or so officers standing on street corners each having a go / learning how to operate a hand-held speed check radar.
Nope - no biggie at all

Very poor service from the cops. Of course they probably had nobody available to call and see you, look at the scene, get that CCTV themselves, look at it, do some house to house enquiries, check for other CCTV sources in the area and anything else, such as another car parking nearby they used. But that doesn't alter the fact it's poor. Hopefully at least they will have recorded it as stolen on PNC at least. Only following things up when they are actually presented with evidence of who the culprits are is where we are these days.
Unlike some on here, I sympathise with you. Depending on who your insurers are, don't be too quick to buy another car as a runabout, they might come through fairly quickly (unless they've told you different or you want to take time to get another).
Might be worth your while uploading the CCTV footage to the internet. You just never know if it circulates about.

How did they get in? Did they just walk up, unlock the car and drive off as if they had a key?

Feel for you.
Only positive is they didn't bash you over head in ASDA car park to save them bother of cooking a key.
Presume it was pre-2012 ? .

Feel for you.
Police response typical of the reaction these days and they'll roll out the usual excuse of 'Public Service Cuts'
Had it myself in the last few years. I had £2.5k of gear stolen from my van, total investigation time was a 5 minute phone call from me reporting it and then an email within 24 hours telling me the case was closed, wasn't even aware it had been opened!!
Just makes my blood boil that not long after the event, I was pulled over for a cracked windscreen (happened a few days before) and given a form which I had to get an MOT place to sign showing I'd had it repaired within 10 days or I would be summoned. Twice as much effort to get my windscreen sorted than find my nicked gear Discovery 4 HSE

Maximum penalty for a first offender for car theft regardless of value without violence is 2 weeks at Her Majisty's pleasure is there any wonder they are stolen when it takes a lifetime to save enough to buy a new D4 and some workers can never do it even in a lifetime. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.
