Bonnet Catch D3
Hi, just wondering if anyone can help. Near side Bonnet catch won't latch. Greased it up but if you pull under the bonnet on the near side with your finger tips the bonnet lifts up. Do i need a new latch or is something not in line? Thanks Mark

I had exactly the same thing. Doesn't matter how hard you shut the bonnet, it won't latch.
I found I had to file the latch where it locks, to allow the 'pawl' to flip into place.

I have the exact same on mine, if you put your finger behind it, on the underneath you can push it back, then is latches fine. 05 V8 HSE Bonatti Grey

My nearside catch was sticky from new in 2008. Recently it just wouldn't latch at all so I ended up soaking in wd40 and manually Working the various bits back and forth and now it's great. Probably don't have any lubricant on that side of the production line

Tried lubricating it with WD40 but didn't work. Might be the cable is too tight as latch just doesn't catch but when i used a thick piece of wire to push down on the lock it locks. It's that or the latch doesn't go down far enough to lock. Thanks for your help everyone.

My latch stopped working and it turned out to be the pawl that latches the cam plate was sticking with 11 years of grease and road dirt clogging it up. Cleaned it all and now works perfectly Try rotating the cam plate with a screwdriver or similar and see if it latches into position

Make sure that the bump stop is not wound too far out, as that will stop it latching properly.

The rubber bump stops are on the bonnet itself

Also, there's a lot of movement in the catch itself if you undo the two torx screws, as the holes are square not round, allowing up/down/left/right adjustment

Well i've actually managed to get the bonnet to close and lock now. Took the front grill off to have a look at why it wasn't catching and found the bonnet catch was just not long enough to push down the locking mechanism so had to use a long round file to file away the loops of the latch so the bonnet catch would go down further to operate the locking mechanism. Thanks for all your help. Now the rear Tailgate doesn't open but it's the tailgate boot micro switch that's gone and luckily not the cable lol. Welcome to the world of Land Rover.
