Retrofitting flappy paddle / heated steering wheel |
|
Hi.. newbie so please accept my apologies if my questions have been asked a hundred times before
I've recently bought a 2010 D4 HSE which didn't come with the heated wheel that I presumed was standard..
Is it possible to retro fit a heated wheel?
If I bought a RRS wheel with heating & paddles, could I get the paddles to function?
& lastly, as I am technically and mechanically inept, is there anyone in the Doncaster / Scunthorpe / Lincoln area that would be able to do the work for me
Cheers, Rob

Hi,
Yes its possible but you need to get the bits from the correct year car.
Do a search for heated steering wheel and there are a few posts
I think this one should give you the info you need
http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic151728-15.html
edit - it was an optional extra and not standard

Thanks for that
I've been offered a wheel from a 2010 RRS which is heated and has the flappy paddles, so presuming I have the 'heated' clock spring, it should be a simple swap over (?..)
how hard is it to get the paddles working though - I'm presuming it's only software related, as essentially they're the same car

Missed your second reply whilst typing..
I don't suppose you know of anyone who could do the software upgrade, I noticed you were from South Yorkshire, so probably not that far from me (north Lincs)
Thanks again for the replies.

Mine didn't have the correct clock spring so I wouldn't bank on yours being the heated type.
The wheel, switch packs and ECU would be ok and would be a straight swap - no CCF update required.
However to get the paddles to work you would need a flash update for the gearbox something you can do yourself with guidance if you buy an IID BT tool or you could get help from a IID pro user, a site sponsor who could do it for you.
Hope this helps

Cheers - it would if I knew what a CCF update was, or an IID BT tool
Where do I find an IID pro user, preferably within a 20 mile radius of DN9?
Thanks for your help so far

It was literally one of those friend, of a friend moments.. I gave him £200 for the wheel and airbag - hope to recoup some of that by selling my existing wheel though, so shouldn't end up costing me a fortune

I'm doing a similar thing, minus the heated bit. Expecting my second steering wheel getting delivered within the next few days. The first one didn't have compatible switches, so had to start the search again. 4x4 Phase:

Honda CRV 2.2 ctdi - owned 5 Years - Sold
Nissan X-trail SVE 2.2d - Written off after 1 year
