What has caused this

Had the car hunter aligned after new lower arms about a month ago the chap said I needed a new bolt for the near side front lower arm rear as the bolt head was damaged and he couldn't get it torqued up but it was tight, as usual work commitments have stopped me from getting a new bolt but recently if I leave my local coop I have to go over a speed bump at an angle and there is a metal on metal scraping noise from under the car and I have noticed this damage to the outside of the offside front tyre what's the forums thoughts on what had happened I will be replacing the bolt on Saturday if I can get a replacement and the hunter chap said he would redo the alignment free

The damage goes all the way round and is like small rips in the surface car drives in a straight line so unsure what has happened

Had something similar on a Scirocco where each tread block wore at an angle. It developed over time and could find nothing wrong. The new set of tyres did not pick up like previously

Had a similar problem on my front tyres.
It was twitchy on some roads and couldn't find anything wrong with the steering or suspension.
I changed the front tyres and it was a different car and so far it hasn't come back.

Have you checked the wheel bearing?

Jack it up

Get a block of wood and cut a V into it ( the end of a railway sleeper would do)

Then put a scaffold bar under the wheel and rest the bar in the V, then try a lift the wheel by pressing the end of the bar down.

this works on tractors also. I checked my D3 this way last week and found my NS front bearing was shot, but I couldn't tell from driving it.

PS whats up with D3 bearings!!! - no grease nipples? and no way to get grease in!! and you have to change whole bleedin hub!!!!!

Bring back D1 Hubs with castle nuts and split pins..perhaps I need a defender!

Also when you had the new arms fitted - did they fit the lower arm concentric bolts correctly.

The only way to do this is on a 4 wheel Alignment jig, then adjust the concentric bolt

You will know if this has been done properly, even with new lower arms, track rod ends, and rear upper Joints it took my garage almost 2 hours to get my 4 wheels all pointing in the right direction. and it only cost £90.

Unless you have got this done properly you are wasting rubber (and Fuel)
